Hi all,
I have been given a bag of skerne leys bagged haylage and just wondered how you store the open bag while using it, do you leave it in the bag and just pull out what is needed or do you take it all out of the bag an pile of up? How long does a bag normally stay ok after it has been opened.
Thank you

If it’s a small bale (up to 20kg?) then leave it in the bag and pull out what you need. In cooler weather it lasts 5-8 days ish..warmer weather about 3 days but obviously this is a rough guide!

I've just had a devon haylage go a bit sweaty in the bag after 4 or 5 days, once opened. I don't usually leave it in the bag, but pull it out ans shake it loose. It's bit drier by the last net but isn't sweaty or sour.

I can’t say I’ve had that happen with mine but I use one every 3 days so probably why 😂

Coblet (who currently has to be in at night because of lurid laminitis risk way too much grass) & who has COPD so can only have haylage munches his way through one bag every three nights - not a chance of it going off, mores the pity 🤣 🙈
