Join me in a weather related moan-off......

Today I couldnt undo the padlock to get into my lock-up....so couldnt muck out. OH will have to spray with WD40 and the mucking out will have to be done tonight after work. Meh:mad:

The trough is an ice cube....having to cart warm water down to the horses from the kitchen sink ( outside tap is frozen)...kitchen floor is a mess. Bah:mad:

Having to push wheelbarrow through 2ft of snow to the muck hill- up a slope. Chant after me ' keeping me fit, keeping me fit'

Bent a hoofpick getting the ice out the pony's front feet....:eek:

And the final straw......I found a frozen rat in the mares water bucket.....like an ice-pop:eek:

So.....this weekend.....I have decided, yard chores apart - I am spending it in a Baileys and/or red wine haze playing Xbox.:D

Could be worse....

I'm working from home, but my head feels like a giant ice-ball (no idea why, the heating is on). Got a conference call this afternoon and have to have some work done by then!

Sneeze.

Think I'm getting a cold.

Whinge.

I have to say, the ratsicle would not have been a pleasant surprise!
 
Like the bailey's/ Red wine haze, may join you in a mulled wine one myself. Scared my yard mate yesterday by telling for the first time this week we actually had running water, temp was -12 this morning so that has now gone too but 1 day out of 7 we have not had to trail water for the cows water troughs!! The bull (Rocky) was loving this plan as it meant he had lots of really nice horsey hay to eat to keep him from trying to help us fill the water containers, luckily he is quite quiet and a good old boy and a better option that the bullock next door who think all this to-ing and fro-ing is sooooooooooo exciting!! just keep thinking how much you are saving on gym membership, by the end of the winter you will be able to afford to buy more stuff for the ponnies!!!!!
 
I have been relably informed that it is some thing that the Non-horsey crowd have time for, they actually pay for someone to make them carry heavy stuff around and get out of breath, lift stuff up and put it back down in the same place????? sounds just like having a horse but with out the fun, have you ever seen anyone have a cuddle with their running machine or tramp out in 6 foot of snow to make sure that the rowing machine is warm and has enough hay!!! I thinks not.

Am starting to think this snow is turning me slightly mental!!!!

I think sometime the OH would rather pay for the gym membership, would get me out of those little chats when he comes round the yard asking about another new Rug/coat/boots etc.......... and yes she really does need every diffrent weight of rug avalible, he doesn't just have one coat does he!!!
 
No you all have it wrong, gym membership is something that non horsey folks pay about £50 per month for. Then they say 'must go to the gym tonight' then they go home and watch I'm a celebrity........Good job the gym doesn;t need feeding and watering - it would be dead!

I couldn't help but find your post comical. Your muck heap sounds exactly like that of another yard I was on.... only coupled with all the snow was 2ft of mud AND it was in the same field the horses were turned out in!!

Were you not tempted to reheat the rat and bring it back to life...?? No...?

I know it's a pain in the ass but it makes an amusing read ;)
 
Cold feet, cold hands and no running water but a running nose!!! That is winter summed up.

But building a snowman and watching Lady freak out at it before realising his race was food....now that was funny :D
 
The weather here is awful but to be honest I am quite enjoying it for the most!

Things I am liking:
There is lovely snow on the ground (far better than rain)
I am bringing my 2 in for the first time in ages and really liking the routine
Ebony is enjoying coming in and is not box walking/ rearing and being a general **** in her stable, she is being a saint :)
I am getting to handle and play with benny loads and he is being his cute rather large fluffy self
I am sad but since I haven't done it for ages, I am enjoying making beds, mucking out etc.
I have stolen skinny latte daisy whippet's bed to wrap around the tap at the yard and since it froze on sunday night and now it is fine!
I can out run my whippet for the first time in my life (she keeps sinking in the snow) - she is quite cross at me for this!
Anything cold is a good excuse to have alcohol - I am cool with that!
My little hyundai is being a fabulous 10yr old beastie and starting every morning without fail, she is boldly going where other cars are sliding and I am very proud of her!

Things that aren't so good:
The water to the house has frozen so I had to go to mum and dads to have a bath last night, but it was very hot and very lovely and then I sat in front of their real fire, daisy came with me and slept in the bed :p - so not so bad :D:D:D
Daisys feet can't stand the cold, her skin around the edge of her pads bleeds when she comes in from her walk :( doesn't seem to worry her but I don't like to see it. I have now brought some baby socks and vet wrap, will use these and some poo bags and make her little booties (oh the shame!)
My 12 1/2 month old fridge freezer has conked out and isn't freezing properly and I just did a £150 shop (grrr) but since it is so bloody cold outside we have burried the food in a box in the snow :D:D:D

So, sorry but I am still enjoying it all... quite a lot:D:D:D

we have turned our fridge and freezers off to save the electric - it was actually, honestly, literally warmer inside the fridge than in the kitchen. Gods honest truth! We have no heating and have a very old house with thick walls that holds the cold. We have a cellar which constantly floods but now it has frozed over so we have an indooor ice rink!!!!!!:D:cool:

Rowenna look on the bright side when we are all sweltering through the heat wave I'm sure next summer will be you can sit there all smug and cool with no AC. Lol
 
Oh I'm so pleased its not just me!! We have just bought our first house and OH is a little unused to country cottage ways! He keeps complaing becuase he can't light the fire.

Our freezer is not freezing quite as it should but it is in the pantry which is as good as outside. I think it will be fine once it stops being below freezing in there!

Bought a new 10.5 tog quilt yesterday and was toasty warm in bed last night.:)
 
the rat popsicle just made me shudder.
I'm sick of this snow, it's marginally better than relentless rain I guess, and no mud is nice, but other than that it can go away now, thanks, because I'd really like to be able to start working my horses again!

My friend used to have to remember to put the milk in the fridge to stop it freezing solid, which it did if left on the worktop:eek:

I too am having to cart warm water from the house as the tap at the field has frozen. Poo picking is fun - most are hidden in the deep smow, but there are some along the little 'path' the ponies have made - this morning they were frozen to the ground - even the poo in the field shelter was frozen so it is really cold:eek:

No sign of a thaw and I am officially bored of sledging. So are the kids - I just hope the schools are back next week.
 
I like the lack of mud (but know its lurking there underneath). I am also getting a bit fed up with doing the 'ice shuffle' - fell over yesterday with two buckets of water, not funny. OH has pulled his back and the chiro told him to ice it every hour for the rest of the day - so the snow has been useful for something!
 
I didn't empty the wheelbarrow of muck and the next morning it was frozen solid and wouldn't shift - even when turned upside down and hit repeatedly with a large bit of wood.
I left our filly in her stable until 3.00 yesterday because it was so cold. I let her out for an hour while I mucked out and she was desperate to get back in after five min, banging on the back of the stable when she heard me pick up her feed bucket.
I found a dead rat in a water bucket once, it was floating upright begging like a dog, but it was summer so it wasn't frozen. Only thing to say about it is that it's better than finding a live one.:eek:

The live ones have taken to sheltering between the straw bales......found 2 of the buggers in there. Almost got in with them.
Perhaps they had sent a search party out for the missing one:rolleyes:

I too am liking the lack of mud...but as you say, give it a week and we'll be wading around in it....

On the plus side- hooves and feathers are lovely and clean:D
 
My weather related moan is this: WE HAVE NO SNOW!!!

I feel cheated.

We still have the sub zero temperatures, the frozen water troughs, the frozen rutted ground and icy lanes. But none of the fun stuff, and no reason why I can't get to work everyday after freezing for an hour in the dark sorting out cold horses, dogs and chickens!

Rubbish.
