I took my horse to Onley on Sunday and took part in the 75cms class with a 85cm jump off. The aim was to get him out and about again, and to hopefully jump a nice steady clear round following his slight suspensory ligament sprain which he got in Feb this year. I was inspired as I'd taken him to the vets last week for an injured leg and saw the same vet who that had come out to see him last time to give me the all clear to start jumping again. He asked me if I'd done any competing on him after telling me his leg was doing great and he was sound and seemed suprised that I was cracking on with it.

I must admit I was a bit nervous particuarly as one of the jumps I felt sure he'd look at. So I held onto my neck strap and did a little bit of screaming along the way, but he jumped a lovely clear round and we came 5th in the horse section out of 35 horses and ponies in the class. I didn't bomb around or anything, but he's quite a big horse so covers the ground.

I was so pleased with him and his leg stayed down although I was careful to put his ice vibe boot on prior to warming up and to put an instant ice pack and the ice vibe boot on after the class.

It was a lovely course, and well run and organised as usual. I have dressage this Sunday at a local venue that I'm hacking to with my friend so I'm hoping he behaves himself again, I am sure he will, he doesn't normally let me down. I'm only doing a prelim as its our first time out again, but hoping eventually to go back to doing elementary, especially if I can get my new dressage saddle rejigged again following his weight loss.

So pleased with my boy, and really chuffed that my ex made the effort to come with me and was there to support me as my new best friend and groom. Happy days x
 
what injury was he at the vets with?!


do you never think you just do more than his body can cope with in reality despite what the paperwork says? hes in and out the vets more times than i go in and out my shower!

Nothing to say other than well done because I don't know anything about all of this but I snorted coffee out of my nose at this. How very attractive. Now I need to go and get a tissue to wipe my keyboard. Wonderful ;)
 
Prince33Sp4rkle If you had seen my previous post he was at the vets because he struck his one leg into the other leg on the inside whilst out in the paddock on the Monday, it developed a lot of heat over the cut and was sore to touch. I treated it with hibiscrub antibiotic cream and bute as I assumed it was infected. I rang the YO the following morning who said his leg was still swollen so when I got to work rang the vets and got him booked in for that afternoon. When I got to the yard it was down and cool but I still took him to the vets as I'd already booked the day off work (to take him jumping) and knew that if he did need antibiotics they wouldn't prescribe until they had looked at him. I trotted him up for the vet and the vet said he was sound. He thought that the symptoms I had described had indicated he had a haematoma and that he would be fine in a couple of days.

I take him to the vets as and when I feel fit and don't need you or anyone else to keep moaning at me when I do! Because I get moaned at if I don't so I really can't win. Just be glad my horse is fit, happy and sound and get over it.
