Following on from my last post.

I have just looked this up and the website says it is good for improving topline/coat without weight gain.

Has anyone used this feed on their horse?

Did you notice a difference in general condition, eg. muscle, coat etc?

Did you feed it on its own or alongside something else?

How much per bag is it?

I started my mare on this last week.
Yes, she has put on a bit of weight (but difficult to tell whether this is to do with the balancer, as the spring grass is now coming through, and its somewhat warmer too.)
Her coat is much softer and summer coat seems to be coming through nicley. But its obviously too early to tell whether it has built up muscle or topline.
Its not a bad price for a balancer. I paid around £24 for a bag.
 
my mums horse (14yo ISH in little/no work) and our shetty have this.

they are both fatties and have to be muzzled, i feed it alone as a complete feed at the reccomended levels.

they look fab in coat/feet etc but i wouldnt say it can improve topline-only work can do that!!!!

i think its a nice feed for fatties as its a *proper rattly bucket feed*,i found they got very bored of lo calorie chaffs etc and stopped eating them, and thus stopped eating their vit/min supps too. this is an all in one and they wolf it down!
 
I use it for my good doer cob as a complete feed too (half a cup am and half a cup pm) with some carrots and soya oil once a day too. she hasnt looked better and looked great all through the winter too.
 
Both of our boys are on it and their coats are fab. One is on it because he's prone to a paunch (understatement of the year...) and the other (Irish TB) as he's been off work for ages and anything else makes him impossible. Improving topline is an exercise issue really. I always wonder why feed companies claim their feeds can do anything for this (apart from providing the necessary vits and minerals for muscle development).

I think they can only make the statement about building topline because the feed provides the vits and minerals that help build the muscle and then the topline. I totally agree that topline is only built up with *proper* work and correct feeding.
 
I used to have my boy on this. Hes a very good-doer so i just fed it 3 cups a day with a handful of dengie hi-fi lite so he didnt snuffle it up so quickly! It gave him a lovely shine, sorted out his cracked feet and gave him excellent condition he looked really good on it. I took him off it a few months ago and started him on equine answers 365 complete instead as he really didnt need ANY calories other than his hay but i still wanted an all-round supplement to help with his feet. Ive noticed his condition has dropped off though and hes not looking as good in himself as he did when on the lo-cal, although he has lost his little belly! Im gonna keep him on this over spring/summer but probably will put him back on the lo-cal over winter as it really does do everything it claims :) i really rate it
 
I've just started my late teens semi retired good doer pony on it and have noticed a difference - his winter coat is coming out much better than previous years and he generally looks well and happy on it. Most important he loves the taste and just a cupful and a bit will completely hide his daily Bute and it works out better for his waistline and my wallet. I feed it on it's own no problem.

Regarding topline - he has none, he just can't do the work to get one and the Lo Cal hasn't made a difference to that.

Can't remember exactly what I paid, about £21?

I give Bailey's Lo-Cal as a mixer but only when she is stabled in winter. She is a real good do-er and I find this works best for her.
She always has good topline, even when not working all that much (don't do an awful lot in the winter) and I don't notice a deterioration when I stop her feed in summer.
her coats is always nice in winter but she has pretty rubbish feet and not much seems to help this at all! It was hard for me to find a balancer that would keep her trim but this seems to do the trick!
I pay about £21 per bag

My old 14yo tank-like ISH was on it during the summer- he lost weight during winter, and seemed to gain weight from air in the summer :p
He looked really good on it IMO and his feet improved (though they were never great..!)
