Has anyone used this for weight gain alongside Baileys no 4. I don't want to pump him with energy feed and thought this might help add bulk for him.

Thanks in advance.

Yes! You need to feed it with sugar beet (of various sorts) and some chop; it is a great weight gaining feed but not all horses like the taste so you need to introduce very slowly to something they do like. You might find you won't need both that and No.4 after a while else you might end up with a porky!
You could also try Barley Rings soaked down. Horses seem to love them and they are great for both weight and coat condition as they have linseed in. Have used both with great success.
What type of horse is it btw and is it in work?

MFH_09, He's a connie X tb, but looks more Tb than anything, he has just come from Ireland and whilst not in poor condition he is certainly on the light side with no muscle at all.

He is just 5 and I have had him just under a week, he is in light work until he starts to build himself up. He's out at grass during the day and in at night and I have just put him on Baileys No 4 along with Alfa A oil. He has ad lib hay but doesn't seem to eat hay with much relish, haylage he loves, but whilst he is new to me I am keen not to pump in with lots of fizz until the ground rules are made so limited haylage.

He is in light work at the mo I hope to ride him at least 5 times a week, I have a lesson on him tomorrow to set me straight on how to proceed with him.

I've never needed to feed both together, i've found that No4 makes them put on condition astoundingly quickly. for some reason i tend to feed the no1 in winter (because i think of it as more warming-up) and No4 in summer. both excellent products, my horses love them.

Thanks Kerilli, he certainly eats the No 4 with relish, hope to start seeing a difference in the next few weeks.

yes I used them together over the winter and turned a hat rack into a lovely show horse!! However I was always told you should use a balancer if you feed No.1, this was on the back of the bag and I also called Baileys about it and they confirmed. I'm sure that many others don't and have no problems but I always used a balancer with mine. Good luck and your neddy sounds lovely!!

Oh thanks lochpearl, so far he's been really good, I just want him to put some weight on with out pumping him with loads of fizz. I'm off to buy some this afternoon to try and will also get a balancer.

He's such a pretty boy and will post before and after shots when an improvement is made.

Hiya

I used No.1 on my gelding after being recommended it and it's fantastic stuff. Only thing I would say is to introduce it slowly... I started mine on too much too soon and he turned himself inside out! All 17.2hh of him :-). I had to take him off it and after a couple of weeks started to introduce it slowly again. Wanted to stick with it as the condition he put on was fantastic. That together with Alpha A Oil and Calm and Condition and you're away. I also use Fibre Beet in winter which is fantastic stuff.
