Anyone ever used baileys no 1 for fattening up? what was you experieance & have heard to be careful with it as it sends some horses loopy? Thanks

I've used it but would say honestly that I think there are better things - Outshine, Micronised Linseed and Copra may be worth a look instead

What sort of prices are they? He has chaff & sugarbeet same as my others but needs something else added to fatten him up not sure what? I cant afford bags of feed that are a fortune something around £15 or cheaper

I'm using it now for my new horse who was very poor when I got her. Her weight has significantly improved in the last three weeks since I started feeding it but also changed to ready mash extra at the same time so it could be that. Neither feed has changed her behaviour but she is a steady stoic ISH, unless she sees a horse eating black bin bag of rubbish!

Please try anything else. I lost my filly to it.Falcon feeds Omega rice (ricebran&micronised linseed) is far safer bet.

Hes a 17.3 hh 25 yr old lost muscle is hinds as not been worked for a while he is ribby & currently on s/b & chaff what else can i add into his feed to bulk him out? thanks

- grass nuts, alfala nuts or chaff (I quite like alfa-A-oil).
- plain oil from supermarket or linseed as has been suggested (up to 500 grams a day, it is about £20 for a 20 kg bag but that will last 40 days fed at maximum dose). Oil has lots of calories in a small volume so it's good to fatten up.
- a small amount of oats

The oil will take several weeks before the bacteria in his gut get used to using it so don't worry if the result is not visible straight away.

Feed small meals but often (consider feeding 3-4 times per day if possible) and rug well to keep the calories.

You are better off feeding small meals and often but many of us can only cope with 2 meals when u work full time. Meals should be no more then around 4lb which is a scoop of nuts or 2 scoops max if your using chaff which is lighter of course otherwise its going stright through without any goodness being taken up. Personally I rate micro linseed which is around £20 a bag and add a heaped mug in each feed. Plus feed equimins advance complete which is a fab high spec balancer which really adds condition. I just mix that into a mash and all the horses look great and picks up bad doers a treat.
