Are they intended to achieve the same results? Just wondered after lots of people recommended the Baileys in my 'getting condition on my TB' thread

Absolutely no problem with feeding Baileys no 4, but I have always fed D&H feeds and wondered what their equivalent was?

I've fed both and found baileys seems to have worked better on my horse, I was strugglying to get condition on him and it worked a treat.

I would go with the Baileys - the D&H Build Up sent my TB x mare loopy

I compared them from the respective websites and the only difference was the Baileys had 1mj more energy than the D&H?

I'm not arguing with actual results though

Just wondered why D&H dont market an equivalent product?

D&H build up would be their equivalent to Bailys No4.

I have a feeling the Bailey's is barley free whereas D&H isn't.

Ahhh thanks B&J, I was just looking at the nutritional analysis on the websites which doesnt give contents...

It does seem that the overwhelming vote is for Baileys though, so off I toddle to the feed shop this weekend

Baileys IMO is just nicer feed!! They base their rations on oil and fibre a bit more than Dodson and Horrell do I think too. I had an IDxTb who just didnt keep weight on at all, and D&H didnt make a different tbh, whereas Baileys did

Baileys stud balancer is also very good for getting topline but not weight.

How does that work? Is it down to protein content?

ETA: I've used Build Up and it didn't send my tb x loopy!

Ive used both with success. My last WB who was hell to keep weight on over the winter finally did the last year I had him on Build Up cubes. But my current TB x Luso is on the Baileys No. 4 and its kept weight on him all year round and doesnt send him loopy. Id probably say Baileys is best but then thats just because Ive been using it for so long with good results.

Yes the stud balancer is good for topline because of the protein content and it contains other conditioning ingredients. It is good for horses on high fibre feeds which do not need to put on weight just condition, ie. you would not want to feed a calorie high diet so you just add the balancer to the low calorie feed. - I hope that makes sense!

Thank-you imafluffybunny (great name!!) for that. Really useful. I have managed to keep good weight on my loony boy due to Baileys No4 but now also have a fat baby, who doesn't need more condition just topline so I may try this when he comes back into work

Just to be different - D&H Build Up has worked much better for me and I find it works out cheaper than Baileys too. We had problems with lots not liking the No.4 cubes

Baileys. Every time. Great product, with 'just what it says on the tin' results.
Great company with very helpful staff, great sponsors too.

i think they are aimed to do the same thing tbh. the yard i keep my horses at is owned by the whip in at south notts...and he feeds some of his horses on baileys no.4, but he used to use dodson n horrel build up...tbh they both do the same thing...but the dodson n horrel is just more expensive...

i use the baileys no.4 for my TB gelding...but i suppose its whatever works best for your horse... xx
