Hi there! Need a little advice, my horse is a 16.1 irish sport horse, quite a chunky boy! He has been hunting all season and has lost a bit of condition, put him on baileys number 17 but it has fried his head and he is a complete nightmare to work with! It has but condition back on him but I can't ride him because he is completely mad!!
I have been advised to try baileys number 6 and just wondered has anyone here used it and what kind of results have you had?

Personally I wouldn't feed any feed which does not have a nutritional analysis readily available. Baileys doesn't even mention levels of sugar and starch on the website, so I gather that it's probably a lot!

How about unmolassed sugarbeet (DE 13 Mj/Kg), micronised linseed or oats?

I don't really rate the topline mix, the topline cubes (no4) is much better IMO and didn't send my TB looney. I wouldn't go for the No6 either really. For condition, I prefer some speedibeet, micronised linseed and either alfa a oil or no4 cubes. I usually feed the alfa a oil in summer and the no4 in winter, just suits my mare better and she'd pack on way too much with the no4 cubes.

I used to work at a yard where the majority of horses were fed Baileys number 6. I really rate it. The horses looked very well on it and we never had a problem with it blowing brains.

ETA I wouldn't be too worried about a little loss in condition at this time of year. In a few weeks the spring grass will come through and we'll all be asking each other for horse diet plans!!

Any of the Bailey's range made mine too loopy to ride, she's sensitive to sugar and starch and I'm pretty sure those levels are quite high! No. 4 was probably the worst. Changing her to Bluegrass releve as it has no cereals low starch and low sugar, is high in oil and contains equijewel for condition.
