Baileys Outshine?

Hi, could i have peoples experiences using this. My daughters pony is starting out in his showing career at county level as well as carrying on doing the usual PC stuff hacking and generally been a kiddies pony.
He is currently working at a morderate level,she rides 6/7 eveings either jumping, chasing people round the school or hacking on the move for about an hour. Also most weekends either out jumping or PC rallies. On top of that hes been lunged/long reined 4 times a week, either in side reins or a bungee to build up his top line muscles. Goes out most afternoons after ive lunged him then in to be ridden in the evenings.
Up untill now hes been on safe and sound which ive been upping recently as hes working quite hard now.
Now hes not skinny but wouldnt want him any slimmer, and although his coat is ok really want him to have that glow as hes got Royal Windsor in 9 weeks time, also want something with a bit of protein to help feed his muscles but not to much as hes still a kiddies pony.

Been looking at this on the website and it seems to be just what im looking for without upping his hard feed. Not really used ballencers much so wwanted to see what other people who've used it thought of it.

I fed outshine to my mare last winter, lovely shine to her coat but had to stop feeding it as it sent her loopy!!! :rolleyes:

I think if there prone to hotting up with certain feeds then it maybe one to avoid as heard similar stories!
 
I used it with top spec comp balancer and sugar beet and it really put weight and condition on my poor doer in the depths of winter when nothing else would. I needed to pack as much fat/ calories into the least volume feed as he would only eat very small feeds. His bay coat was veryvshiny but I didn't use it for that - more the weight gain. It didnt seem to heat him up either.

I know some people say straight oil and linseed is much cheaper but I preferred this because it had added vits to counteract the high oil and my boy hated oily feeds but would eat this. For me it did what it said it would but at a high price....

He he yer there are some that would be loopy if they lived off water.

Its not so much he gets loopy as in fizzy he just gets really arrogent when hes on hard food. Tried dengies alfa a oil last year and he was nappy and wouldnt do as she asked and as soon as he was off it back to normal. But i think ive read right this has a lower protein if feed correctly but will still get the oils. As want sometthing that will help his coat come though nicely to too, as hes been a bit slow on that front this year!! This seemed like a good option.:)
 
It's not a balancer as such, it's oil ration top up, so yes, it will have less protein than alfa-a of any sort, seeing as alfa-a is made of alfalfa (lucerne) which is high in protein.
I don't remember the exact spec, but can check the label for you in a bit, I'm going to give suppers in a minute.

Yer I want the vitamins and minerals too, as i will feed it with some kind of chaff and thats it. I want a bit of conditon but not lots of weight if you get me. i do also want it for the glow on the coat too.

See the cost thing, i was hoping as hes quite small and native hes not going to need alot so will help keep the cost from been to high.

Mmmm decsions.....:confused:
 
My mums ex racer is on outshine. He is so laid-back on it he's horizontal and he can get fizzy on sugary/starchy feeds. It's fab, it's oil so slow release 'good' energy. Reddy has a lovely bloom in his coat with outshine, he's chestnut and he shines like a new copper penny and he has held his weight really well on it. Would recommend, a bag lasts for ages too :)

Yer i was looking online last night,out of all the balancers ect. this seems to be what im looking for as it will give him a nice glow a bit of a top up on top of the safe and sound without having to put hard feed on top, an the oil will give him a little energy as he is a little busy bee at the mintue. He works harder than most horses on the yard!!!!
 
Alternatively you could just add veg oil from the supermarket and build up to half a mug - 1 mug per day. That's what I feed my horse instead of outshine like my mum but I'm a cheap arse ;).

LOL so am i usually but non of his other feed costs me very much and im making alot of other effort for the show, and theres quite a few qualifing classes in the area for the class hes doing so going to try and do it properly and go all the way, i dont do things by halfs ;).

The thing is hes working quite hard so wanted to get the vitaimis aswell. Over easter hes also got some all day rallies so needs to be at his best!!:)
 
I was impressed with Outshine, it definitely did improve my horses coat. It didn't have any negative affect on my horses temperment

Yer thats what im hoping its going to do, just wanted to see what other people had found really as dont want a buy a pot then have it sat there because its no good for him, i really dont mind paying for it if it does what it says on the tub.:)
 
Captain went onto it when I won 6 months supply of Bailey's feed in a comp. It sent him absolutely loony.He was rearing and bucking in his stable, thank god he never hurt himself, 17-3hh of horse throwing himself around is scary and extremely dangerous. I think it is the oil in it that did it for him, although of course not all horses will be effected the same way. Needless to say he is back on A&P C&C. And happy again.

I put mum's horse, Woody, on outshine when I had him over here. He's 17.2hh Trakenher extremely poor doer (hat rack given half a chance) laminitic with arthritis, COPD and navicular.

Mum couldn't believe how well he was looking on the outshine - extremely glossy coat, perfect weight and bright looking.

I thoroughly recommend it.
 
Absolutely brilliant stuff - I only feed a mug a day for coat shine & my horses gleam. I have a very silly 7/8th TB and over winter she is on 2 mugs a day & it doesn't send her loopy at all, although I've never fed any more than that so can't comment on large amounts but it shouldn't hype them up - that's the whole point of it!

However as martlin said it isn't a balancer and doesn't contain the full spectrum of vits/minerals. As far as I'm aware it only contains vitamins to balance the oil content so you would need to feed a gp supplement as well.
 
I'm about to start using for my skinny minnie TB and pleased to hear it doesn't send them all loopy as I had him on D&H build up mix which did send him loopy along with putting the weight on.... I got feed advice from a few feed companies and Baileys suggested it so here goes (when I get my bag from the local feed merchant)

On a slightly different vein are you rugging the pony really well ie. as many rugs at it can take without sweating? This is what is done on pro showing yards and makes a massive difference to coat shine and quailty.

Outshine is superb stuff BTW!

Yes he is rugged very well, hes only just had his duvet off!!! Hes a right pampered pony at the minute.:)
 
Another vote for outshine too! I feed it with Stud balancer and mix and my horse looks super. He's 18hh and a bit of a poor doer. I also give mollichaff showshine. You could try that instead of Alph-fa.(Sp)
 
I popped B on it for a while as he had run up after hunting and he was fine for a week or so and then turned into a total thug on the ground, he was fine ridden but horrid the rest of the time. Its odd as I have always fed him a high fibre/high oil diet, this just seemed to tip him over the edge.
 
I feed it to my NF ponies, 1 mugful a day which is about half the recommended dose, plus 1 cup of Baileys Lo-cal balancer, also half the recommended dose for their weight.

Even if I say it myself, they look fabulous. Plenty of energy without the silliness and spookiness too. And it has bulked them out too, they are more "beefy" (completely different to being fat, which they aren't) which suits them.

But Outshine is NOT a feed balancer in any way shape or form, purely an oil supplement. You could try the 5kg bucket first to see if you like what it does, it takes about 2 weeks to really see a difference on it.
 
word of warning! Some horses will absolutely not touch it! It apparently has a very strong taste.

I bought a bag for my old boy and he refused it. Incredibly expensive stuff to through away. It was the only food he ever refused to eat. when I spoke to Baileys about it they said it was not uncommon. I'd recommend getting a sample first to check your pony will definitly eat it!

Got some today and he scoffed it down a treat, hes a really unfussy eater typical pony you know that eat anything including ham sandwhiches crisps anything he can get his hands on really!!LOL:D
 
2 weeks on it and he's put weight on already (much quicker than D&H build up mix), loves to eat it (not fussy eater anyway) and doesn't seem to have turned into a raving loony (yet) bit more energy but thats cos he's a bit fatter and feeling better post op I think, I am pleased so far so fingers crossed? Just wondered how the OP was getting on too?
