Just looking for reviews off anybody who has used this please? My TB currently has linseed in his diet (alongside other things obviously) but I'm thinking of switching to Outshine for the winter as I like specification for it.

He's a good weight currently but doesn't really eat as much as hay as I'd like during the winter. He also needs to continue to build more topline so it would be to help with both of these. Current diet is high protein and oil and low starch and sugar and his energy levels are good. He has increased his topline since being with me but that is still in progress.

I started feeding it when my horse got ill with Inflammatory bowel disease, was losing protein in his blood and lost a lot of weight.

I was feeding 4 cups (can't remember what that weighed as) qhen things were at their worst. He's been maintained on 1 cup over 2 feeds but I'll up that as we go into the colder months.

He's not a greedy horse but equally isn't fussy (was starved as a youngster so always been grateful for food). He's eaten it no bother and he's looked really well on it.

He has also been getting Saracen releve mix and linseed with some grass nuts and grass chaff and a tonne of supplements to try and keep him healthy. So I don't know what to attribute solely to the Outshine but it was the best spec for the higher calories that I could find.

If they still do sample sized bags, it’s worth trying it before buying a full sized one.

I have had a few (not usually fussy) refuse to touch it.

I nearly fell over when I saw the price of it! Especially after seeing it was basically just wheat and soya.

Have you thought about trying an added scoop of good quality grass or alfalfa pellets first? That would also up your fibre and protein intake.

If you're feeding for condition Outshine is 24mj/kg whereas alfa/grass pellets are 10mj/kg (Dengie). Grass pellets aren't as dense either so it ends up huge feeds trying to get calories in that way.

Grass nuts are my go to, with linseed, usually but if feeding for condition high calorie is the obvious way to go (sugar/starch % important too).

Linseed is higher protein than Outshine, and protein is key for building muscle (with correct work) so unless condition is needed I'd stick with current feed if it's working for you.

Thanks. Yes I was looking at him tonight actually and thinking he's in plenty good enough condition going into the winter so doesn't need more calories at this point.

He has started to put on muscle over his topline and still needs to continue with this but I think that just needs more time and the correct work as you point out.

So I'm going to carry on as we are for the time being and increase the linseed (and anything else necessary) if needed as winter progresses.

It's good to hear your positive review of the Outshine though and I think I'll definitely give it a go if we do end up needing a bit more.
