Baileys & Spillers Performance balancer?

Anyone using either? Any good? Thinking of trying one but tbh iv never been impressed with any of Spillers cubes eg conditioning cubes, horse and pony cubes ... always seem very dusty compared to other brands!

I am using the Lo-Cal balancer from Baileys and it works perfect for my horse but am also interested to see what people think of the Performance balancer.
 
I use the stud balancer from baileys, I really rate it. I have heard that the performance balancer is pretty good too, I don't think much of Spillers generally I'm afraid. :(
 
same as farrierlover - Baileys said to me that the perfomance balancer is basically the same as the stud balancer but with a slightly lower protein level.

IMO if your horse is working hard the protein level doesn't really matter, so not sure I will switch - may come down to price in the end.

I actually use Bluegrass conditioning cubes and mixes sometimes and they are always great quality way better than spillers and cheaper to!!! Was thinking of using there Equi Jewel but think il go for a balancer instead lol

Thanks for the replays guys ... On the baileys website it says that the performance balancer is good for there hooves, coat, digestion etc does the stud balancer do the same?
 
Yes, the stud balancer does the same- you can feed it on its own to keep the horses healthy and gettign all the nutrition that they need without any calories added so its perfect if they are on grass in summer or haylage in winter, if there's anything missing from the pasture it wont matter.
 
I have ordered 4 bags of the new Spillers original balancer, the only difference between that and the performance one is that the performance contains more copper which horses working really hard do need. TBH it is a miniscule difference and the original is £24.99 atm! Does anyone know how much the Baileys one is?

The balancer DOES contain calories - it has 12.7 MJDE/kg, which is similar to many conditioning cubes and mixes. However, it is designed to be fed in small quantities so won't contribute a huge calorific amount to the diet, but it is incorrect to say it has no calories at all.
 
Was just looking at the Dengie Alfa A balancer,10kg for £25 tad dear!!! Think i might try the Spillers original balancer to see if it does anything, cant find the baileys performance balancer anywere :(

Oh i just found the price of the baileys :D its £26.99 .. not bad
 
I pay £20.40 for the Baileys stud balancer. Yes, I agree that there are calories but since you only feed 2-3 coffee cups full it's negligable (splitting hairs??)

hmmm... so as there's not much difference between the stud and the performance balancers (that's what the Baileys person I spoke to at Burghley said anyway).... how can one justify the extra £6.59 a bag?

ETA - not that I'm skeptical at all!! ;)
 
Oh Gosh, lol we are all not sure which one to use. Ill go for the performance Balancer from baileys and will give you all a update post . As my mare is on linseed oil at 50 ml a day. chaff 1 scoop 2x day and 30g of seaweed. ad lib quality haylage and is in medium to hard work. So would really shock me if she looks any better after adding baileys as she is looking really well now in February!!;)
 
Im thinking about using the TopSpec cool balancer (about £25 per bag) I have a friend using it for her TB and she loves it and her horse is really looking good at the moment. Ive also heard the normal top spec balancer, and the D&H ultimate balancer are also pretty good.

I guess it depends how much fizz you want!
 
I use Baileys Perf Balancer for my soon to be rebacked rising 5 year old and have since she came off Suregrow as a baby. Also use it for my rising 18 year old who isn't in full work and my sister's boy who is. All do really well on it, lovely coats, feet and only have fibre added all winter. Baileys recommended it for all despite the fact that the only one close to performance work work is my sister's gelding.

My youngster does really well with it, very level headed.
 
My boy has the Baileys one and he is in great condition. I have also used Baileys Lo-Cal Balancer and Baileys Topline Conditioning cubes in the past and been pleased with both of those too.
