can someone explain to me the importance of all the pads underneath one of theses sadlles?

does anyone have one and how do you get on with it?

I have a friend who has two - the dressage and a cc. She hates her position in both, but apparently was the only saddle her horse went well in (according to the fitter she used). They are pretty expensive as well - about £1,500 each.

You need all the pads underneath because it is a half tree - apparently this is what made her horse go really well. I thought it was a load of rubbish - her horse went "really well" because the previous saddle was absolutely awful.

one of my liveries has one.......her position is awful and i think that is affecting her quality of riding. she worries totally about cantering although her horse is absolutly fantastic. I wonder if its the saddle.

Hi
I have had one for three years and will not put anything else on my horses' back.
The 'matrix' style has the points in the tree removed but the other styles all have trees but the concept behind them is that they are so much wider than other saddles to allow free rotation of the shoulders hence increase the horse's ability to move.
The pads are there as the trees are so much wider than normal they don;t sit completely ''snug'' onto the horses back-the pads stop the saddle from moving yet will allow the muscles in the back and top of shoulder to move without ''crushing'' them as such. Not all horses have the pads-one of mine just has a poly pad under hers. i think alot of people are put off by the pad system as they see it as a way to make a bad saddle fit but this really isn;t the case with these. Balance's theory is that a horses saddle should be fitted to a horse that is moving not just standing still. My saddle is an '8X' this is its width and its 8X wider than a normal wide saddle!

I have known some people who find them harder to ride in because they are so wide but no one has disputed the fact that the horse goes so much better in-in my opinion if i can feel a good/ positive difference in the way a horse goes i'll adapt my riding and get use to the saddle-saying that i have never felt more comfortable in mine and love it to pieces.

My TB has relatively pokey movement but the difference in a balance compared to a ''traditional'' saddle is quite remarkable. my friend who competes at advanced dressage has recently had a consultation and when she tried one of the balance dressage saddles her first words were 'oh my god, wow'-her horse's paces and freedom just completey opened up.

I think you should have a consultation and have a look on the website to see what you think-its definately the best thing i've ever bought. I'm not knocking other saddles or ways of fitting i've just never known a horse not to go well in these saddles sorry if you already knew all of the above but i just can't rave about them enough! They are interested but as with all saddles you can get them at very reasonable prices 2nd hand and if you know what style and width you need you can grab a real bargain on ebay!( i also have one for sale so let me know if you are interested!)

Sorry i just read your post again-i thought you were thinking of buying one!! Sorry about the essay!

They do say the Martrix and some other styles are not adviseable for a novice rider as they do not 'place' you in position like some other saddles-they can highlight lots of rider errors etc.

thats ok..i dont know much about them you see..i always thought that having all the pads makes a bad saddle better without changing the probelm...however i now stand corrected....
i do see your point about a novice in the saddle...
