When I got my horse last summer he was a bit reluctant to eat hard feed, chaff was a real no and he didn’t really need hard feed to hold weight so I used up a bag of Spillers lite balancer on him. He loved it and looked amazing, really shiny. I spoke to Spillers and said I didn’t feel he was the ideal candidate for a weight loss balancer but they said if he’s doing well and the right weight don’t change, So I just kept him on it.
He now has a handful of chaff, half a scoop of nuts and the balancer, along with biotin and cortaflex.
These days he will happily eat more.
Really some of the ingredients in the Spillers balancer aren’t my idea of perfect so I’d wondered about swapping it to the progressive earth powder.
Hoof quality is something I’m keen to improve, his feet are vastly better but I hope can still improve yet.
Which is the popular one everyone feeds?
Would I still need to feed the extra biotin (I use the Equimins one) alongside or is the pro earth already a better supplement for feet?
I’m half thinking it’s not broke no need to fix it but the other half still isn’t keen on the fact I’m feeding molasses etc
