I am thinking on putting my WB x TB mare onto a balancer this winter.

She is currently fed Equi Jewel as part of her diet which has given her fab coat and feet however she is a poor doer and dropped a huge amount of weight last winter.

Is the Equi Jewel enough or would a feed balancer be better to help her maintain her weight?

I am happy with her diet and what she is on did help her put on weight last winter when I eventually found a feed she would eat.

I have been looking at various balancers but am unsure which to choose.

Also are the likes of Equi Jewel, Omega Rice and Outshine balancers in themselves or should I be looking more along the lines of Top Spec, Blue chip etc etc?
 
When my TB x Welsh D dropped off I fed him Top Spec feed balancer which worked a treat - his coat looked great, weight improved and stabilised and he seemed happier in himself.

But if you're happy with her feed currently why not use Pink Powder which is essentially a concentrated version of things like blue chip and top spec and means you don't need to change her feed? I used this successfully on my old horse and he was a poor doer but the pink powder maintained him much better than feeding alone!
 
I have been using blue chip with my two and really really impressed with the results (esp the bolshy git of a youngster who can't have much hard feed as he gets too full of himself)
Have just changed over the the Spillers balancer now though (£15 per bag cheaper and analysis is as near as damn it the same)
 
I have only ever used Blue Chip in this respect, because I do feel it works wonders so why change it?? My old boy had his first feed of it this morning - he has it over the winter. I find that when he is on Blue Chip, he eats less of everything else so although it is expensive, it does cut costs elsewhere.
 
Pink Powder- it's great stuff, and helps them keep really healthy and shiny- I've used it in the past and I put mine all back on it in January this year instead of their normal mineral/vitamin supplement and they all look fab on it, they each have 1 scoop in each feed per day- for me it is more economical as well I buy the 1.5kg tub which is about £24 and it lasts about 6 weeks, although I do have my youngster on Spillers Stud balancer- which can also be fed to older horses to top up their vits/mins.

.... that was my concern but going to give the spillers a whirl (analysis/data etc seems very impressive.....)
If Blue Chip came down fron £40 a bag then defo would stick with it....
