Pen the pup has the most fantastic shiney coat but she is bald around her eyes. It isn't that obvious but she has little glasses on! She doesn't scratch, or rub her eyes at all that I have seen, any ideas?

Hope that works. It is very slight. Tawny has vets on Monday so will book Pen in too.

Clodagh, looking at your pic, and perhaps in reality it's more advanced, I don't really see anything amiss, at least not that I'd worry about. Could it be something to do with the natural secretions from her eyes? That's the best guess that I can come up with!

Alec.

It does look like nothing there, it is slightly clearer in real life, but nothing much. Her coat is longer than the older two, which maybe just makes it appear finer? I hope I am worrying unecessarily. She has never had a flea treatment, maybe I will bung one on anyway, which one is best in case it is mites?

My old black lab had exactly this. Started around the eyes and then progressed to hair on sides of legs which she would lick. Eyes and legs became red and sore and hair completely gone. It is a very long story - pm me if you want more info - but short version is after 2 years in and out of vets, every test going, every cream, different food etc we started using bottled water instead of tap water and hey presto - no more red and eventually hair grew back round eyes and almost all hair on legs (we think some didn't because it took so long to find solution that it had almost scarred). We believe it was the fluoride in the water and we live in a very chalky area. Spent 10 years living on bottled water (supermarket own although we did call her the Evian dog). At first vets laughed at us but after a while they had to concede and actually told other owners it was something they could try.

We had confirmation it was the water as after about 2 weeks of being on bottled the redness had almost gone and we went out one night and forgot the bottled water (yes we used to take it everywhere - she never drank from a horses bucket or anything after we found out) and we gave her tap water at the house we were at - 2 hours later red eyes and legs.

Obviously speak to your vet as I am not one, but it is a simple thing to try. You must remember to use bottled for everything though (so if you boil rice when they have an upset tummy - boil in bottled not tap for example).

Also just to add fresh water was not an issue - only the stuff we drink which if you have never looked into in detail you will be shocked at just what they put in it!

I see a yellow speck on her eyelash which could be a collarette from the mites waste products..( look up demodex)
We had a bad mite infection two years back ...harvest mites in our case and the only way to get rid of them was to use bravecto( controversial but very effective)
The day after dosing ,the dogs bedding was littered with black specks from the mites demise....nowadays we use frontline combo and we do see the black specks on the bedding. The mites seems to be most active in late spring and early autumn when the cattle are brought down from the mountains.
For me the bravecto was a last resort as it is a controversial med..but it definitely got rid of the issue whilst in use.

My GSD went bald round one eye, turned out to be a type of mite. It didn’t show up on a skin scraping they had to sedated him and cut some skin out to go off and be tested. It was treated really easily with a pill that is used for something else but also can work for that type of mite.

It looks like demodex. Nexguard spectra is a good flea treatment but you need a prescription or get it from the vet.
I'd take her to vet anyway for a check up.

Bravecto is an easy, although unlicensed, treatment, for demodex. If she is diagnosed with demodex let her breeder know as she most likely will have picked it up from her dam

She saw the vet today and all three have got a pour on. As I left in on the vet's counter I cannot remember the name but it began with P and is ivermectin based. Going back to pick it up tomorrow.
