Bald bits/Girth rubs/sensitive skin - Any ideas?

HI - Wonder if anyone has any ideas? My boy is an ID x TB but has a very fine coat and seemingly sensitive skin. He has rub marks where my leg sits which though I am not Jennie Loriston I am slso not a novice rider, and also gets rub marks where his girth sits (even though I girth him up correctly and has a pure wool girth sleeve over a very soft leather atherstone girth!). My saddler said that he just has sensitive skin/thin coat but wondered if anyone else has comments ideas about what cream to use on the rub marks etc. These marks only seem to appear on change of coat time so believe that he is indeed thin skinned but wondered if I can do anything to help either with prevention or hair growth? Answers on a postcard please ! Thanks in advance
 
If it is sore, Sudacrem is fab stuff! If it is just rubbed hair, i wouldnt be too concerned, my lad looks flea bitten at this time of year as even the reins rub a patch on his neck!!

Surgical spirit is great on unbroken skin to toughen it up, often used on young horses to toughen skin.
 
Can't help with girth area as you already use a girth sleeve, but my friend leaves patches unclipped where her legs go against the horse, to stop her legs rubbing him. Looks a bit odd, but works.
 
William is so sensitive that he has even got them on his legs where his rug touches.
Allways this time of year, and he's not even clipped!
Don't worry unless they are sore, then sudocrem or E45 cream will take the sting away.

My TX x DWB sufferes with this as well, I used to use a pure wool girth sleeve but she still had sore patches, I now use a pure sheep skin girth sleeve which is great. They are about £20 on ebay but well worth it.

Hi, if they are only bald bits where the hair has rubbed away and not sore i.e red or bleeding etc i would try rubbing as bit of baby oil on them. Have used this in the past with rug rubbing areas. It encourages the hair growth and also prevents further friction from whats rubbing it. It works!
 
My horse used to suffer from bald bits this time of year and EVERYTING would rub him raw. I used vinigar mixed with warm water and washed the rubbed areas, this helps toughen up the skin. Just pop a cap full of vinigar into a some warm water and rub the area with a soft towel. It really works.

Glad its not just mine - she has a bald bit were the rein rubs on one side, and a bald bit were my leg sits on one side. They are not sore just look crap. I have been told to try show shine so the coati is glossier and the reins just slide over the skin, haven't tried it yet but it might work.

One of ours reins rubbed his neck, we took the reins to our saddlery and they put some fluffy bits on the reins where they rubbed and its works really well, not more bald neck!

Gold Label Skin Hardener is a wonder product.

My boy used to get girth rubs and bald patches where my legs rubbed.

It is Surgical Spirit based, but coz it's a gel, stays on longer, so works much better. I used it twice a day for 2-3 weeks and did not have to use it again. It's only 3.50 for a small tub which is plenty.
