Hi

I have had my 5 yr old TB for 3 months and I bought him a new saddle when I got him. I noticed it was rubbing a patch on each side of his back recently and got the saddler out, he has now gone up a width and it fits much better. However one of the patches is pretty much bald. From it's positionit looks like it is where the edge of the numnah is and I have changed to a sheepskin numnah from a regular Nuumed one. How long will it take for the hair to grow back? Will it grow back white? Should I stop riding him for a few weeks to allow it to grow back?

I would stop riding for a while or ride bareback if that is an option, some TB's are very thin skinned :)

Also if you have swapped to a thick sheepskin pad when your saddler had fitted it on a normal numnah, you have made your saddle too tight. It would be like buying a pair of shoes whem wearing tights then wondering why you are uncomfortable when you wear the same saddle with a very thick pair of socks.

Is there any residual soreness over the patches?

No, the saddler recommended I use a sheepskin numnah when she came to refit it, the bald patch was as result of him needing a wider saddle.
