Hi folks, I know I haven't posted in a while but could really do with some advice/opinions of you knowledgable folk :-) I've noticed over the past few weeks mine and my partners horses have been getting very odd, flaky patches of skin and either loosing the hair from the area, or it is going very thin. To begin with I thought it was just the change in coats after winter so we've given them a good bath and been grooming religiously, increased the oil in their diet to help with dry skin and used aloe Vera on the affected patches which has helped. I've noticed today 2 of them have patches where the hair is really coming out and is scabby underneath. Both of them only have it on areas of old scars too, which is odd. We are going to bath again tomorrow with insecticidal shampoo and cover them in louse powder, just in case ( even though non have visible signs or are itchy) the vet saw them a couple of weeks ago when vaccinating and just thought it was dry skin, but now these scabby patches have appeared too I'm not sure anymore. I know imaverol and malaseb shampoos are both POM medications but I was wondering if any vets or knowledgable folk could tell me whether something such as a ketoconazole or other anti fungal shampoo would do a similar job? (I work in a pharmacy so can get hold of other anti fungal shampoos cheaper than the vets would give me imaverol!) any other advice would also be much appreciated :-) thank you folks!

Our grey mare has had some dry skin and scabby patches have not bathed her as consider it to cold but have been spraying them twice daily with hypocare and big improvement.
