My mare has pretty much finished shedding and she has probably 50 small round bald patches mainly over her stomach. They are about the size of 5pence coins.

This happened to her last year aswell.

Does anyone have any ideas what it is? She is uptodate with worming, they are too perfectly round to be rainscald.

The bald skin is fine. Its not sore/inflammed etc.

Thanks for any advice.

I have known a few horses who change their coats like this! It can look very strange. One of my friends horses would do this.... and a nutty woman who kept her horse at the same yard tried telling her that it was sarcoptic mange! The horse did it every year... very wierd, but normal.

I thought it might have been this because she is perfectly healthy and it did happen last summer.

Poor thing looks a bit like an rspca at the moment though with these funny little bald patches!

My friends horse also, had this prob and the hair is just starting to grow back, we are putting it down to the fact there were loads of buttercup in the field and he prob ate some which can cause ramdom hair loss as we have no idea what else could of caused it

I had the same on my TB's buttocks. Three round bald patches. Bit of Tea Tree seemed to do the trick. Its all growing back now.

It is odd though!
