Got Holly midget one in Saturday, went for short hack and when we got back and she was tied up on yard i noticed she had some bald patches on her legs (where the mud had dried) so we hosed her legs and washed them in hibiscrub and she has been in ever since. She has a few bald patches and it looks like its where she has been stood in sticky mud 24/7 for the past few months and then where it has dried it has pulled her hair out?

Or is it mudfever?

Its not hot, flaky, swollen, scabby or particularly sore and she isn't too bothered by it.

Also Ada had it a little bit on her back legs too.

We've now moved them into a field thats been rested all winter so far, so there is no mud and just grass so hopefully it'll clear up and not get any worse.

May well be the case! Well i quite hope that it is actually!

We have 9 that live out 24/7 and of the 3 of those that do come in to do work we never ever touch the mud on their legs, only brush off what we can when its dry and of course the other 6 that don't ever come in their legs don't get touched either.

But Holly and Ada have both been in work and neither has shown any signs of pain/bother with either of their back legs... strange.

I wish i'd taken some photos of her legs now so i could have put picture so everyone could see.

Bald patches are around few inches long and inch or so wide she has two on each leg, one either side on each leg. Just smooth pink skin with no fur!

Thats exactly like my youngster, he was out 24/7 and I left his legs well alone, he came in to have his feet trimmed so I took the oportunity to have a good look at them, and discovered the same thing, he has the odd scab left so concluded it was mudfever, there is no heat or swelling and he seems fine, hibiscubed them and now keeping him out of the mud and hopefully that will do the trick

Had this issue also with our gelding - right up the side of his canon bones - strange - but the vet suggested "athlete's foot" cream from the chemist - worked a treat !
