Bald patches on my TB?

My TB has lost patches of hair around his stifle and in his 'arm pits'

Ive checked for lice (none!) and hes upto date with worming, and its defintiely not ringworm.
He was very poor when I got him in January and had winered badly but he has imprioved and has put on quite a bit of weight and topline. He had liver and kidney functionality tests done in when we got him as his coat wasnt great and he looked like cushings was a posibility but that all came back clear too. not really sure what else it could be?

So Ive been told it could be from excess sweating by one person and another said it can come with poor condition and will grow back.

basically, I want your ideas on what else could be causing this, should I be worried about this? how common is hair loss because Ive never experienced it before

Some horses look a bit moth eaten at this time of year. I once had a TB who went patchy when he moulted every year and it was just normal for him.

If you've checked for lice. I would probably wash these areas with some warm water and a surgical shampoo or a hibiscrub type shampoo on a warm day and keep him clean and well groomed and see what he's like in a few weeks once his summer coats established.

I guess Im soo used to big glossy hairy cobs having a TB with feet made out of sponges and paper and a shaggy looking coat is a bit of a shock to the system!

Thanks for sharing your experience, just want to make sure I'm not missing something, just cant think what else it could be. will give it a few weeks and hope it improves

Hummm, I have something very similar. My horse was very poor last April when we got him, he also had a big skanky winter coat, he’s wintered much better this year but ever since we had his winter coat he has a patch on his rib cage that’s round and not bald but it only has very short hair in it??? So it means there’s a small odd looking patch on his coat, I can’t remember seeing it when he had a summer coat??? I’ll try and get a picture for you…
(okay so no help but I have the exact same thing!)

It’s deff not ring worm as the skin underneath is normal and healthy.

My TB who I bought in Feb was also in extremely poor condition with the longest coat I have ever seen on a TB! Underneath a complete hatrack with no muscle at all. He is looking and feeling much better but he too has bald patches. The good thing is the hair is growing back. I was rather worried when all the hair came out round his eyes but now that has all grown back in lovely summer coat. It has now come out around his muzzle and is again starting to regrow. His armpits are also bald and he has various patches all over him with bits of summer coat coming through. He does look a bit like patchwork quilt at the moment! I think his body had to work so hard to keep him going through this awful winter that it is taking a bit more to get the summer coat kick started. He still has masses of hair, I'm enjoying using the shedding blade -it's quite addictive!!
