Bald patches under mane

My pony has bald patches under her mane. It started as a tiny patch on her face by her ear back in the late Autumn and has spread down her neck under her mane.

She does have a scratch up against the fence but not excessively and isn’t scratching at every opportunity.

I suspected lice but I’ve looked through the fur and her mane and cannot see anything other than lots of dandruff.

Anyone got any idea of what this might be please.

I would suspect lice or similar mange, even though you haven;t seen anything. Advice I had from vet was to wash with deosect as this will kill off any external parasites, whatever they may be. There are many types of lice etc and you cannot know which type just by looking. The dandruff is a sign they are there. Also try to improve her general health and be on the alert for any underlying health issues that are making her prone to it.

I would suspect lice. The best treatment I have ever found was Cooper's Fly Repellent Plus but I'm not sure if it is still available
