Bald Patches

I have a 8 month old Cob colt and noticed today that he has large bald patches on his chest, face, shoulder areas. He hasn't been able to go out due to weather so has been stabled since December but has got out occasionally. The bald patches are completely smooth. Which tells me he's not pulled it out cant find mites or lice either any ideas?
 
My horses had a few left them alone and now all hair grown back not sure what it was maybe change it weather diet or washing liquid on the rugs but all normal now
 
My mare had the same when she changed fields. She had dry patches on her face only and when I touched them the fur cam off to leave a bald patch. I was convinced It was lice but turned out to be rain scald. I left them alone and now they have gone.:):)
 
This is the first time ive seen them yesterday, he has no rugs and hasn't been out in the rain or in the new fields due to weather. I haven't seen him scratching or itching theres nothing i can relate it too.
