My gorgeous boy has only got half a mane left. The blloommin rugs have done there bit again this winter and removed half of it. Still I supose its easier when I have to plait as only have half a mane to do lol. Wish there was a way to stop this happening every year.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem each year. Any tips etc.

Sometimes adding a lycra or snuggy hood underneath works.

It is such a pain growing a mane back, only to see it all dissapear again next winter.

My welsh cob suffered from the same problem and the solution was simple - I ditched the neck rug! Although fully clipped he came in at night and other than having more mud to clean off, did him no harm and still had a full mane come spring.

Same here.

I only use standard neck rugs or 'wug' style rugs and I have horses with lovely full manes. All my horses are lightweights/fine coated and they were fine in the snow (lovely and toasty).

Go back to using "ordinary" rugs without necks. Cheaper and still have manes at end of winter. Horses/ponies have come to no harm

Silly me, I never thought of that. I think any new rugs will be neck less !! thanks guys.

Nadia is the same, looks pants. Farrier thinks I should hog it.....no way.
