Just a quick survey...

- What is the going rate for a bale of hay?

- How much hay does your horse eat?

- Where are you located?

Just trying to find out how much it will cost us to go DIY from Full Livery...

Hay is scarce now. It's £5 a bay, here in Cambs, unless you have a regular supplier, then it's anything from £2.50 - £3.50.
My TB eats three quarters of a bale a day, with 4 small meals of hard feed also.

I've run out of my own hay, buy from neighbours small bales for £2 each, and miniheston haylege for £25. I have 7 horses stabled and use 20 small bales and a miniheston a week.
I'm based in south Lincs.

£20 for a large round bale of haylage delivered but the quality is poor and we are going through 3 bales a week because of the amount wasted as it's rotten... feeding 6 in at night and 5 living out 24/7 :( When we had decent haylage at the beginning of the winter a round bale was lasting 4-5 days.

20 quid for a large round - hay or haylage and we have a 17hh 5YO TB and a 15.hh 15 YO Section D - last about 12 days - used to be about 3 weeks for the TB on his own. Small bales are 3 quid each and yes hay is getting scarce. Our regular farmer has run out and we've had to switch to a "lower" quality supply - still the same price. Dunno how much lower a quality it is - it's arriving tonight...

#30 for a large hay bale and #25 for a large hayledge bale, which is so dry and good quality it may as well be hay. We're in central scotland.

You would be cheaper going for large bale of hayledge, but obviously there is a time limit to using it. Ours is so dry that it's lasting 3 weeks easily but we have had stuff that is going off within a week.

ETA - we're going through a bale in 6 days for three big horses getting adlib in the field with a feeder (next to no waste), out 24/7

I use large round bales of hay £28 delivered and it lasts my 4 neds approx. 2 weeks this also includes adding some to the field if they are out daytime.
Small bales are £3.50 each delivered. (Lancashire)
Cheers Teresa

2.75 a bale for small ones. Our regular farmer has taken his sign down now and is just giving it to the regulars. There was a glimmer of hope today, I saw some new grass sprouting

I'm in North Yorkshire, I get small bales for £3 delivered but they are mostly very tightly packed heavy bales, so I use about a bale a day feeding 5 ponies.

I reserved and paid for 100 bales many months ago at £3 per bale delivered. My Welsh D currently gets through 3 pads at night and 3 - 4 during the day as he has no grass to speak of - Derbyshire
