Cant believe it. Every other year have always evented on Day Tickets and never been ballotted. This year, I registered with BE and put a ballot sticker on my entry and have still been balloted! Gutted. Was looking forward to it as the ground is supposed to be good here

I know, we have all suffered so far with early runs by the sounds of things

Hope things settle down later in year!!

Ahh no! What a pain

What's the point of a ballot sticker if they still ballot you?!

Exactly!! am now doing 2 unaff until Mattingly and Borde Hill in May. Would have liked Munstead as a first run. Went to Pulborough at the weekend schooling and jumped every jump so XC is not an issue for me its the whole environment as last ODE she blew up in the dressage!! And she has been off since last June so something easy and straight forward would have been nice

Grr to anyone who got in!!

I know, damn ballotting system!

Was hoping to get a PN in before Nurstead at the end of April as really wanted to do the N there.

Will enter SOE quickly but have a feeling that will be just as popular unless you can do day before dressage which is impossible for alot of people

I must say Im so glad I live in Scotland, its not often we have to do the ballot system up here - we seem to get just the right amount of entries
wink.gif

Would drive me insane if I couldnt do the events I wanted! (although we do have way less BE things up here so I guess its only fair!).

I think I must have been very fortunate then, because I just did Stilemans and I haven't been ballotted for Munstead either (without a ballot sticker!!!)

Hopefully your luck will change soon :-)

I got balloted too

I contacted them to see if I helped on the PN day I could get entered, but they told me it is very unlikely and apparently all of the "big names" have multiple entries, because of their fame they don't even have to offer to help and all their entries got accepted.
It's so annoying for amateurs like me, this was going to be my first BE event but now I've got nothing to do grrr

And ground is really good as well, as you said, I went schooling there a couple of weeks ago.

Thats very frustrating - the fact you had a ballot sticker on aswell should have almost garenteed to a space, unless they werent balloting according to the normal balloting process. The only way you can be sure not to get balloted is to ring up before you enter and offer to help at the event.

They reckon they've ballotted 95 people with stickers on - yet people have got in on more than one horse - I thought day tickets went then non stickers then multiple rides. But then we couldn't go upsetting the pros.....! Suspect they aren't playing by the rules and I just hope people realise and they get a very low entry come autumn. It's just really miffed me that they balloted over a week ago and then suddenly changed it. If it had gone straight up as the original list it would have not seemed so hard

I did use a ballot sticker and said I would do dressage/SJ the day before.

Exactly, that's what's annoying. I looked a week ago and I was in. I could have gone on assuming I was in, but luckily I checked and they did send me a letter saying I'm on the waiting list...along with 99 other people.
mad.gif

Yes it does seem a bit fishy

The poster above gets in with no sticker and then Mr Sunny uses a sticker and gets balloted - I think BE need to be informed.

Me too, this would have been my first event, I used a sticker and still I didnt get in. I havent even got a letter from them.

Starting to regret paying almost £200 to register when I did last season perfectly well on tickets and was never balloted.

Youre right applechaff, very fishy......:(

I looked at the list and there are over 20 people with multiple horses in the intro.
It seems so unfair when I am not even able to compete my one horse, and there are people competing four.

I am on the waiting list now, my friend just texted me saying that if you are on the waiting list you normally get in. Is this true?

Well not all 100 are on the wait list - I thought that too from the letter. But my friend has had slightly different letter and her entry form back with the special ballot code on it. So bit of chance we'll get in - don't want others to have the misfortune of an injury etc - but afraid I'm still crossing things! If you've offered your services on the Sat you might have just jumped up to the top of the wait list too so every chance you will

Here are the rules on Ballotting

Oversubscription at One and Two Day Events
Whether or not a class is oversubscribed, the Organiser may reduce the number
of horses ridden by any rider because of timetabling constraints. Hors concours
entries will be treated in exactly the same way as all other entries.
If an event is oversubscribed:
a) Day ticket entries are balloted in the following order:
1st - Day Ticket Riders on Day Ticket Horses
2nd - Full Members on Day Ticket Horses OR Day Ticket Members on
Fully Registered Horses
3rd - Day Ticket riders on fully registered horses with a ballot sticker.
b) Organisers are to give priority to higher classes over lower classes, e.g.
Intermediates over Novices etc.
c) CIC** entries take precedence over Intermediate entries.
d) Intro and Pre-Novice entries, sections or even the whole class must be
rejected before any Intermediate or higher classes, with cross country on the
same day, are balloted. Where Intro, Pre-Novice or Novice classes have cross
country on the same day, if any class is being balloted, Intro, Pre-Novice and
Novice sections must be run in the ratio of 1 Intro:1 Pre-Novice:1 Novice.
If the Advanced class is over-subscribed:
e) Organisers are to accept as many advanced class entries as possible, but
i) May reduce the overall number by rejecting horses from riders with
several horses entered in that class, e.g. rejecting all riders' 4th or more
horses, then their 3rd, etc. and then
ii) May ballot in accordance with sub-para g) below.
If any other classes on that day are over-subscribed:
f) Organisers must restrict the number of horses ridden across country by one
competitor to three in one day, unless all the horses to be ridden by that rider are
in the Advanced class (when five cross country rides is the maximum).
g) Sub-paragraphs a), b), c), d), e) and f) above apply. Subject to those subparagraphs,
organisers must accept entries in the following order:
i) Super Special entries (ballot sticker returned balloted from another
event) or a 'super ballot' sticker.
ii) Two special entries per rider (ballot stickers)
iii) Entries which the Organiser specially wishes to accept.
iv) Multiple riders' Special entries (ballot stickers)
v) Normal entries one per rider (without ballot sticker)
vi) Multiple riders Normal entries.
vii) Entry forms incorrectly submitted or completed.

Well the woman I emailed said she'd see what she could do, and I guess if I am on the wait list then at least there is a slim chance.
Horses are unpredictable so quite a few may drop out for various reasons.

Hi All

I'm also balloted and have had a letter saying I'm in one of the group of 95 people that have also been. They're allowed to keep a wait list of 15 and I'm not one of them.

So, to read that someone above has got in without a ballot sticker is wrong - sorry MissTipps - are you providing help at all? If not, you were darn lucky it seems.

I also don't hold out much hope of getting into S of E because I stated I can't do day before dressage. Last year I DIDN'T ask for day before dressage and they put me in as such which meant a serious scrabble at work trying to book an extra day off work. When I enquired about it to the Sec she said if I didn't like it I would have to withdraw! Rather rude I thought.

Seems like us one-horse, working for a living riders are bottom of the pile.

On the perhaps plus side, the Autumn Munstead is the same date as Firle, so I know where I'm going.

No, I'm not. But please do bear in mind that I'm doing PN (I think Mr Sunny is doing intro) - I'm not sure what you had entered for.

Oh and by the way - I am also a one horse; working for a living, rider

It doesn't make sense. We have two horses entered, one PN, one OPN and neither was ballotted, even without ballot stickers
confused.gif
(not complaining though!).

I wonder if it's to do with entering and paying online. I've always paid by card online and never been ballotted, maybe because they can't be bothered to go through card refunds. Easier to send back a cheque. Not fair, but possible
crazy.gif

Nope. I was entered for the PN as were 2 of my friends that have been balloted.

I sent my entry by post bearing a sticker, but friends probably did theirs online and I know one definately had a sticker number on.

Munstead have cashed my cheque and written me out one of there's so that must be as much hassle as recrediting a card payment I would've thought.

I wonder whether I should complain to BE? I don't like to as I feel your card will be marked from thereon in??

Well, I sent my entry off on the day entries opened and my details were on bdwp 2 days later, so no chance it was later than all the other entries.

I hope I'm not going to be penalised for entering by post, for one thing you get charged more, and secondly I can't do it from my home computer for some reason, and not easy to do it from work either

I thought that too, but although you get charged more you don't need to send the SAE so you save at least 2 stamps which doesn't make it quite so much. Pay by debit card as it's cheaper than a credit card.

Thanks Pebble - you're quite right.
