Ballybane shamrock

Got one. Homebred. Dark bay. Now 15. Great character. Ballybane lovely stallion - sent mare to him when he was based in Somerset. Would use him again if I was young enough to cope with another younster.

Whilst posting -would love to hear news of Jack and Sally Hawkes (who owned him) as Ballybane now standing in Cheshire. Did they retire as they used to stand stallions for other people as well as their own.

Iv spoken to his owner who now owns him who rates him highly..Hes 26/27 now and still covering. His owner has a few progeny there by him and has invited me to go along and meet him..he has a fantastic temprement im told

Nice to hear from you again. Would definitely go and have a look at B'bane's babes. He was foaled in 1986 I believe. Came over from Ireland as a 3 yo. Previous owners did not have him graded as "he got enough mares" without it. He was put forward for grading as Irish Sport Horse when rather older than the usual candidates and was accepted "because of his fantastic temperament and classic old-fashioned bloodlines" (he is a gt.grandson of Hyperion on TB side and Ballybane Grace (his mum) was a prolific in hand winner and producer of stallion sons.

On H&H picture gallery there used to be some pics of a huge chestnut by him - called Toby I recall. Some of them have gone eventing too. When I saw that he had transferred to Cheshire I did write to his owner and enclosed photos of our lad but never heard back.

I hope a few more fans will notice this and contribute as it would be nice to hear more about how the progeny have fared. You rarely see one up for sale so perhaps they become part of the family and don't get sold on that often.

Keep us posted. Good luck.

Only just seen this.

I have a rising 6 year old by him. Her name is Matilda, Tilly for short.

We bought her unbacked nearly two years ago and she was a doodle to back. She's got the sweetest nature, such a poppet. A pleasure to do.

Conformationally I would say her biggest faults are being built downhill, not the best shoulder and having her neck set on a bit high.
