We have a 16.1hh light/med weight mare we would like to put in foal. We would very much like to use Balou Du Rouet but don't want to breed something to big.

Does anyone thats used him know if he adds a lot of size or bone?

I have a 3 yr old by Balou and he is out of my 16.1 mare and I would say he will mature to about the same height as her.
Also have a friend who has a four yr old by him and hers is approx 16.1/16.2 and hers was from a mare that is 17.1 so doesn't necessarily throw big.

I have two fillies out of the same mare by Balou, they are both not only different in markings, but also in frame. I don't think either will be huge, but one does have more bone than the other. The mare has in the past produced little clones of herself, Balou has been the only stallion so far to change that.

One thing I can say is that both have a super jump, and I am very pleased with them.

The kid who rides for us has a 5 year old by Balou who only stands 15.1hh. His dam was 16.1hh. There is a lot of bone on the boy though. He was supposed to be kept entire but was told not to grade him as too small.

I haven't measured with a stick but would say he is about 16.hh and also as others have said he has quite a bit of bone. When he was 6 months old he stood at the fence and promptly jumped from a standstill over it to visit his friend in the next field so can't wait to see if he still has the same ability!

oh gosh ive bred a monster !!

no not really my nearly 2yo (July) is standing at 15hh already and has the longest legs ever !!

She is not that big in her frame though and i think will make 16.2hh !!
