i think that you should ban horse racing because all them horses that died so young like 4 or even 2!! it's not fair on the poor animals there all forced to race and some are put down and nobody gives them a chance, the jumps are so high and how would you like to go round a course like that? IT IS HORSE ABUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jump horses don't run as two year olds or even as four year olds. Whilst I agree that running two year olds is unneccessary I don't want to see racing banned. It is an important part of our heritage and an industry which employs many people. There are aspects of race horse welfare which concern me, but having worked in the industry I don't believe the horses are forced into it. Ours as a rule were a fairly happy, mellow bunch.

And the jumps aren't bigger than Badders or things you might meet out hunting when you remember you can brush through the top of them. Road and tracks in the old format were steeple chase jumps after all!

Saying a thoroughbred is 'forced' to race is like saying a border collie is 'forced' to work sheep. It's what they do, what they were bred for and instinctive.

If a horse occasionally doesn't want to race, it won't. Like that grey at the Grand National this year - he just said 'no'. Highly unusual, but they couldn't (and quite rightly didn't) try to make him once they had seen he meant it.

Personally, I would rather a race horse had a happy, well cared for and short life than many horses I have seen over the years - shoved in a field, ignored like an old toy someone has grown out of and miserable.

hi agree but i'm not the race type, i see your point and i saw on a video on youtube that a horse died in racing at 2 and 4 and i ment dodgy dealer race owners

Well if its just the dodgy dealing race owners you want to ban.... :D

IMO it is cruel to keep horses locked up :( we should all go open our stables and set them free to live life roaming the countryside! All this riding and grooming and feeding polos, its not natural! :D

Racehorses are not allowed to jump at such a young age. Ours start doing some flat races at 5 years old, then start some jump racing at about 6/7 years old. Sorry I'm feeding the troll :D

Ok, so if racing was banned, what would happen to all the TB's bred to race? What about all the staff who work in the industry? Thousands of useless horses who would have to be culled and thousands more unemployed.......

yeah deffo i really want that to happen!!!!!!!!!!!! but as long as we would still get to see them because i love my little loan pony sooooooooooooooooo much!(cause were selling my horse and the loan pony is until we get another one)

That's how I read it too. Like the kids who tell me it's cruel to eat meat but then when you ask them why say 'because I love animals and my mum says so' or something along those lines.

Or the boy at my school who, when the school stupidly had a debate on hunting, said all people who hunt are callous and murdering and then I said 'well I hunt' and he said, 'well obviously not you' because actually we got on quite well.

To show concern over the industry is pretty valid really. It can be a bit shady at times. Just my opinion though.
