We show horses internationally and haven't heard anything!

Although we don't use it ourselves we have our own secret recipe from our farrier

That's insane, and it certainly hasn't filtered throught to the AQHA!
There is a rule that Appy's may only be shown with CLEAR hoof varnish on, to show off the striping on their feet.
It is fairly noxious stuff and I always scrub it off my mare's feet within 24 hours, applying lots of Effol afterwards. She's got fabulous feet, not a quality that quarter horses are renowned for :)

I always think it looks stupid!

We have a few on the yard that show and they always use it. It makes there horses look like barbie horses. Over produced and tarted up. that and the whitening clays and the makeup.

Especially when the horses are grey or have socks. There is a show cob on our yard who has 4 white stockings and 4 white hooves to match. His owner uses this black "stuff" on all 4 feet. It just looks tottaly fake.

It much prefer to see natural shine with the natural hoof coluring showing through. I think also if you horse has **** shaped feet it just makes them stand out more. Ive never used it, and i wont either.
