Ban the sale of Fireworks to the public

I must confess that I have had as much trouble as anyone else with fireworks, having to rescue my frightened horses and ponies over the years, pulling used rocket sticks out of our paddocks etc!

However, is it really our right to dictate to others what they do in this respect. We have lost fox hunting due to the opinions of a minority and other ways of life are threatened.

Do we really want all our activities to be governed if they dont suit someone else?

I have signed many petitions to control the sales of fireworks, but non has achieved anything.

We (or at least I) am not interested in fireworks being banned, I love watching them too, but I do feel that they must be used in a controlled way. I had a firework thrown at me and my dog, my cat nearly lost his life to a thrown firework, a local man was left stranded in the country when kids threw a firework at his guide dog. Fireworks are EXPLOSIVES and cause much harm, sometimes intentially, but also (more usually) by accident. I think they should only be used in ORGANISED displays. besides which, you then get to see far more for your money

Happily signed - or will be when I've finished this!

It's not just our horses and pets that are affected, what about all the wildlife, it must be horrendous for them plus all nesting birds etc. I too, love fireworks but they are getting bigger and far far louder nowadays. It wouldn't be so bad if they did not bang, just made pretty shapes but some are now like bombs going off which is totally unacceptable even in a display; wherever fireworks are let off, some animal is going to be near to be frightened so let's minimise it as much as possible.

I don't think that's an issue. When big displays are on, you can stand on any hill and view them (which is only a problem to those living on the Fen

Hunting did not pose a danger to the general public, fireworks do. Only two years ago a public display went wrong and a little girl was seriously burnt. A guy where we used to live used to throw fireworks out of his window at 7 and 8 year olds playing in the street for 'fun'

. Having had two toddlers who were terrified of fireworks, being kept up late at night, and having their sleep disturbed for weeks (nightmares etc) I personally think the bloomin things should be banned outright. But as someone else said, if they cannot ban the sale to the public making them quieter would improve things alot.

We had our very very loved Foxy PTS when we found him on 6th November at 6.30 am with a smashed front leg and a 500yard blood trail from where he had dragged himself across the field from the piles of spent rockets some B*STARD had let off in his field. I had to sit on his head for an hour as the vet couldnt get through the traffic any sooner to PTS it was horrific and it has made me cry my eyes out retelling his sad fate. So please understand why i will lie in wait for them this year and if they dare to return........

IMO you can't compare the 2, you are talking about giving untrained people explosives!

I have a friend who was hit on the side of the head by a firework on the way home from school a few years ago. She lost her hearing.

If people want to see fireworks they should go to an organised display. They are far more impressive anyway.
