Bandages for white legs night before a show?

Hi all,

I was gifted a tub of Supreme Products Leg and Body whitener yesterday, and I’m wondering which way is best to use it. I’ve gone from a completely black horse with no markings to a completely white one, so I’m completely in over my head with the grooming!

I don’t own fibergees or stable bandages, if needed of course I’ll get some, but I’d rather look at alternatives considering I’ve never bandaged before and wouldn’t trust myself completely to do it right.

Could I use it as a paste and put boots with straps over it? Or will I need to get fibergees? Attached is the type of boots I would be thinking of using!

I tend to just wash socks and any other mucky bits on the morning of a show. I do put a rug on, when it is cool enough, to minimise washing, but that is the extent of it.

I make a paste of chalk and water and smear it on. Then brush off when you arrive.

how Long does it take to dry on average for you? If it dries in around an hour or two that’d be perfect to just throw on in the morning and brush off before I hop up!

Is yours a hairy or a trimmed leg type?
Trimmed it normally takes a couple of hours, for hairys it does generally have to be a night before job

Yeah I was just thinking if I wash my Welsh on the morning of a show, her legs wouldn't be dry before we got home at the end of the day ?
I dont bandage her legs, I just shove the chalk on the night before. I did bandage my other horse but I expect stable boots would have done just fine.

The bandages are there to stop any dirt from sticking to the wet paste, so the boots in the first post would work

If I’m taking it very seriously then I make a white paste, paint it on the night before and cover with gamgee and a stable bandage. Then remove and brush off at show. If your horse isn’t filthy in the stable then you can get away without the bandages ?

I've never bandaged any of mine and its always been fine. Pellet beds help I think, but any filth sticks to the paste which you brush off anyway.

Thanks everyone! I think I’ll have to cover up somehow, my horse absolutely destroys his stable at night, but glad to hear the boots could work!

Try and get cotton wraps. Bandages will leave crinkles unless you use the foam padding underneath.

Always use a clean turnout rug in the stable....waterproof it minimises the poop stains..
