Hey all.

Iv never used bandages before but i notice a lot of people do. Is it better to school/hack.in bandages or boots? What are they mainly used for? and iv heard that if you bandage wrong it can really damage a horses legs, this true?

Thanks :)

If you can get away with nothing, that's best IMO. Saves their legs from over-heating and it teaches them not to clonk themselves if they can feel it :p I bandage my youngster's legs when schooling, because he's spooky and learning lateral work and therefore prone to knocking into himself, but when he's more established he will go without. Older horse is bear legged unless studded up or doing a lot of jumping/gridwork.

Yes, bandaging incorrectly can cause a lot more harm than good, so absolutely make sure somebody who knows how teaches you first :) Elastic bandages need padding. Be very careful to have an even pressure, not too tight and if using polo bandages, run a couple of layers vertically up the back of the legs to stop any ridges causing pressure points on the tendons :)
