When using fleece exercise bandages i always bandage down to the fetlock joint - not under it but around it, however i have noticed on some pictures that people have bandaged underneath the fetlock joint for exercise?? i thought it was stable bandages and for travelling that you only bandaged under the joint??
Any thoughts?

I beleive it just comes down to personal preferance, some people bandage more of the leg than others.

Personally i dont see the need for bandaging for exercise :)

Like you I bandage under the fetlock for travelling and just before it for excercise otherwise it can limit the movement. If your worried about underneath the fetlock then bandages and over reaches can be used. Some people do bandage all the way down but looks uncomfortable for the horse and I've seen a horse over reach badly, step on bandage and pull it off, cantering around with it trailing behind :S

Yes i do have OR boots on too, shes one of those horses who needs boots/bandages and even chaps on in the field as shes always coming in with nicks on her legs! i schooled her once without boots as they where rubbing her, next thing she caught the inside of the front leg - was quite a nasty cut so have vowed to always wear boots/bandages for everything!

bandaging underneath with fleece woukd restrict movement, the elasticated fleece bandages are better for this as long as the person doing the bandaging allows for even pressure/support.

i see no need for bandaging below, if striking there is a concern i'd prefer over reach boots but thats just my opinion :P

Mine are always bandaged for schooling, but I am 'old school' and the bottom of the bandage stops at the top of the fetlock, in my opinion it restricts the movement of the fetlock if you bandage over it, unless put on a little looser down there and then that would be dangerous.
I see that many of the top dressage riders do in fact bandage right down over the fetlock so I suppose it's down to personal choice.
