Do you? Always and what bandages? My horse recovering from long lay off. Have been using boots but thinking about pros and cons of bandaging instead. Never done it before, advice please. :)

Bandages are good if you can do it well, but can cause a lot of damage if done wrong. I bandage as the area protected is bigger than a boot and find legs stay cooler under them. I hate neoprene boots as they make legs sweat so much

I really don't like bandaging unless its on a bigger horse. My little mare has such skinny legs when I bandaged hers for exercise its virtually impossible to get it completely right and without creases. She was best wearing boots when she was ridden, just for extra support as she is an older girl.

Mine always has bandages when in work or hacking. Turnout with boots and bell boots.

Agree with the poster who said to only bandage if you know how.

I bandage my TB when introducing new skills or increasing the intensity of his training for the first few rides. He injured his suspensory racing and while he has been declared sound by 2 vets, they have both said to give him extra support when increasing intensity and to build him up slowly to give his legs time to adjust.

When he is a bit more established at whatever new element or intensity level I put him in open front boots to encourage the leg to work and strengthen by itself. I repeat this pattern as often as needed.

A well wrapped bandage will offer support for the legs. Sort of like an athlete taping an ankle or shoulder. It will not impeede the horses movement at all and will be comfortable to wear.
A poorly wrapped bandage can create pressure points, restrict the blood supply to the leg and can cause tendon, ligament and nerve damage.
