My boy got a kick to the leg above the knee, sort of half way between the knee and elbow. It has been stitched and after having a few days with a bandage on from fetlock to elbow (just in case the bone was chipped i think, thank fully it wasnt although it went down to the bone) he is now in a bandage that covers the wound. The problem im having is that its slipping, when i spoke to the vet he had said dont worry about changing it unless it slips but as im allowed to walk him out for 10 mins its has slipped. I've changed it but it slipped again after walking, not enough to expose the wound but enough for the for me to worry
Has anyone got any good suggestions on how to limit it? Im thinking of walking him, then changing it tomorrow instead of the other way round that i did today which might help. He is having a sort of wadding bandage under vet wrap and other than vet wrapping it as tight as poss and starting as high as poss im not sure what else i could do.
Any idea would be greatfully received :)

My horse once cut himself in this area,it was sutured but broke down & needed dressing. I dressed it as normal then but Elastoplast layer at either end which kept it in place.

Elsatoplast is fab. Also don't bandage to tight as the bottom of the leg will swell up. Also exra pressure over the wound won't help healing and U may also get dressing sores.

Snogg polsterplast was really useful when one of my gang had a wound in a difficult to bandage area: it's sticky plaster, and you just put a dressing on underneath it so the sticky stuff doesn't come into contact with the wound itself (or anywhere too close to the wound).

Can't remember where I bought mine, but this looks like the same stuff:

It did leave a bit of a sticky mess afterwards (I think there was a glue remover available too) but it was worth it because it covered the wound and kept it clean so well.

I would worry that it could end up being put on too tightly to try and avoid it slipping.

Is the wound stitched either way does it have to be covered to just go out for a walk and once the horse is back in the box be cold hosed and cleaned and then dressed, fresh air does help with healing and if it is not stitched and going to burst open then i wouldnt be hand walking it anyway.
