Bandaging

I tend to use various brushing/xc boots most of the time and thermatex wraps in the stable. Only ever stable bandage when told to by a vet!
Polo wraps - not clear on this using a strip down the back? Sounds like a good thing to do, and interested to know how as I am wondering about using some bandages when I lunge as am lunging twice a week now and want to start some canter work on lunge soon. I was always told they were safer than elasticated bandages because softer and no strectch so therefore less danger of over tigntening?
Am i right in thinking you mean taking the loose end of the bandage and running it up the back of the leg before then bandaging round the leg as normal? Don't suppose anyone has any pictures of polo badages done really well?

vets are usually in a hurry, unfortunately. i've seen them leave big folds in the gamgee then blithely bandage over it.

Is basically how i apply polo bandages for work EXCEPT those dont have any lining under which is a no go for me personally.

And basically yes, you're correct. The danger with elasticated bandages is that a) you can over tighten and b) its harder to keep an consistent amount of pressure because they're elastic

I will used the non elasticated fleece polo bandages when schooling and don't use any gamgee/fybergee under, haven't come across anyone that uses polo bandages with fybergee either!

Stable bandages always with padding underneath although I don't bandage in the stable unless treating an injured horse.

as Dianchi says, would never put polo bandages on without the strip running down the length of the tendon, A: they keep the bandages from slipping down, and B: they protect the tendon and stop any pressure points. If they are not put on in this way then yes you may as well put on a normal exercise bandage with no gamgee and see the damage you cause.

I use fleece polo bandages for schooling and porter protectors and powerflex for xc. I only use stable bandages with gamgee in the winter on clipped legs if it's very cold or on my older horse if his lymphangitis flares up. I hate those bandages you can get from Lidl with half fleece and half elastic, everyone seems to buy them as they're so cheap but havn't a clue how to use them properly and they're put on totally wrong and really tight, they think they're protecting their horses legs but in fact probably cause alot of damage. People shouldn't use bandages unless they know how to put them on properly.

Bandages should, IMO always be used over padding whether gamgee, fibagee or the inbuilt fleece padding of some polo/dressage bandages. I worked at a rehab yard where a lot of the tendon injuries were bandage related.
The vet there couldn't bandage either, incidentally and used to beg us to redo them for him when owners/other vets came
