Banned breed being advertised..

To take a screen shot on an iPad, press the off button (small silver rectangle on side) and depressable button to left or right of screen (depends which way you’re holding i, might be at top or bottom if you’re holding it portrait style.

If you hear a click, you’ve done it and the screenshot will be saved in your photos. Alternatively, take a pic on your phone and email to police.

So a breed of dog is what makes it dangerous?!

People with your attitude to BSL make me sick - its like saying all black men want to rape white women or all muslims are terrorists.
 
Certain breeds are more dangerous than others. Especially when they are very large, powerful and kept in unsuitable environments for their inherent breed traits.

And banned breeds don't tend to be owned and bred by responsible people. Can't think why....

why do you think it is a banned breed? agree it is not the dogs fault but we are in the real world and these types of dogs are extremely dangerous in the wrong hands...

So the fact that 10 or more countries have banned the breed is an ignorant mistake ?

I will give the second comment the contempt it deserves, other than to suggest you find a bowl to avoid making an unnecessary mess.

sometimes, frankly yes. there's no need for these kind of dogs and rarely do people want them for the right reasons.

as for your last statement, it's really not.
 
I do see where Kimberleigh is coming from, but tbh being pts by injection would be preferable to being fought which would be what they would be wanted for. At the end of the day no normal person living in a semi in town would want one as a pet. Sad, she is beautiful. I had a 'pig dog' that I rescued in Oz, she was heeler/bully/god knows what and bar the cropped ears looked very similar to this dog.
 
They are banned because of a knee jerk reaction by a clueless government - do any of you actually know what Dogos are bred for?? Have any of you actually met one in person?? Or perhaps you blindly believe all you read on the internet...

I do not support the breeding of illegal dogs, not because I believe they are any more dangerous than the hundreds of non-illegal powerful breeds, but because the only ones to suffer are the dogs themselves when they are seized, kept in kennels without basic care for months and then euthanised purely for the way they look.

By reporting the advert you wouldn't be punishing the owner, if they're stupid enough to advertise publically then they're stupid enough to just go and do it again - but the dogs will be taken and killed. How that sits right with anyone is beyond me!!

The BSL laws are no different to what Hitler wanted to achieve, but with dogs instead of people - the eradication of a "race" based on nothing but opinion.

What makes a Dogo Argentino, a Japanese Tosa, a Fila Brasileiro or an American Pit Bull Terrier any more dangerous (in the wrong hands) than a Rottweiler, or a Caucasian Ovcharka, or a Bully Kutta, or a Bullmastiff or even one of the most popular dogs in the UK - a Staffordshire Bull Terrier? All powerful breeds, all have tremendous bite power and tenacity. Why are the latter legal to own and the former not?

This and your comment re Hitler means you will not be taken seriously. Your analogies are wildly exaggerated. To put them in the same context as a banned breed is ridiculous.

The originating base dog (Córdoba fighting dog) was bred to fight. As mentioned, however, it’s not so much the breed as the idiots who will mishandle the dog due to its reputation.
 
I've seen all kinds of dogs PTS for biting-collies, retrievers, labradors, staffs, GSDs, rotties and GDs and I've seen dogs bite under stress that wouldn't normally. the difference between these and some of the dangerous breeds is that the vast majority of the dog owning public can't manage a cockerpoo, let alone something genetically predisposed towards guarding, being protective, really needing very careful socialisation and blinking huge to boot.

As often said on here by someone much wiser then me, you don't know what dog you'll get until they are around 2yo, and thats when you see these massive breeds come up for rehoming-I have a work colleague who specialises in taking on rescues of this sort (not banned but Cane Corsos and the like)-he's just had one that scared the bejeezus out of him and its been PTS.
I reported someone on FB because they were illegally docking ears at home (Cane corso again)-that is the sort of person that generally wants that sort of dog-it is only about status and not because they are interested in the good of the breed. They have no place in your average suburban set up, they are highly specialised animals and arguably don't serve any purpose that can't be served by other breeds.

I don't believe the DDA, or whatever they call it now, is a great piece of legalisation-I've not yet seen any other workable suggestions though other than banning all muppets from owning any dogs.
 
The advert has been taken down now but the 'headline' photo that came up with the dog standing on its back legs straining forward while tethered to a large wooden post just showed the kind of owner the ad was aimed at. The cropped ears looked home done, as well - very rough and ragged. I am afraid that I don't believe that being passed around homes like that is better than being pts, regardless of any legislation.
 
Being euthanised by lethal injection wouldn't hurt the animal - it's a painless, peaceful way to die - and surely that's better than it ending up spending it's life on the end of a chain in someone's concreted backyard as a "'personal protection dog"!?
Might be something of a controversial opinion but I'd rather see an animal peacefully killed than potentially harm someone, and that advert wasn't exactly aimed at a pet home was it now.

Having not seen the advert I cant possibly comment on it except in a general sense.

Dogos are bred purely for hunting purposes, so no different to a lurcher in terms of what they are designed for! Good ones shouldn't be human aggressive at all, and no more a "personal protection" dog than any other large, powerful breed. Dog aggression is not tolerated whatsoever as they hunt in packs - what use would they be as hunters if instead of going after game, they went after each other?!

If this is solely a post about the fact that the dog may end up in the hands of idiots then the breed shouldn't have even been mentioned...trawl through those ad sites and you'll find thousands of dogs aimed for sale as guards/protection dogs etc etc.

Dont make out that just because of its breed it will be dangerous because that is *******s.

I could get pics of my cockapoo or greyhound or springer tied to a post on their back legs with their teeth out - simply by baiting with a ball! Does it mean they are killer dogs?? Of course it doesn't!

I disagree massively about these types of dogs being good for nothing except untoward activity - why cant a decent owner choose to own a mastiff type?! A very dear friend of mine competes at the highest level Obedience with his mastiff mix - and regularly beats collies and retrievers hands down! If you saw him walking down the street he would fit the stereotype to a tee but I can guarantee his dog is under better control in any situation than 99.9% of pet owners. He is trained in detection and bite work but lives with a pack of dogs and toddlers.

Also why does this "they are not suitable for nice people" nonsense not extend to people who choose to own Dogue de Bordeaux or English Mastiffs or German Shepherds?

No one is saying decent owners can't have whatever type of dog they like. What people are saying is that that advert wasn't encouraging decent owners to consider the dog, which only bodes poorly for the animal.
For reference: if I wasn't too much of a lazy **** to own a dog I'd have a staffie :) Love them, think they are fabulous things.

And im sure you'd be a great owner for any of the dogs on the BSL list...what I'm getting at is the dogs are not dangerous purely because of their breed which is what was stated at beginning of this thread

No they are not, I own 2 Rottweilers who are two of the softest dogs you could wish to meet, because of their upbringing but the dog in the advert is a banned breed in this country.
Just as if someone told me that had seen someone shoplifting, or breaking into a car, or knew categorically, that their neighbour was working and claiming unemployment benefits, all of which are against the law, I would suggest that they report it, I think this ad should have been reported. Which, it would appear, it was.

Agree & it’s unfortunate that the ‘types’ that breed & own these banned breeds aren’t banned from keeping dogs indefinitely.
 
i agree it not the breed of dog that should be banned but until we have proper laws in this country stopping the yobs from using these types of dogs as dog fighting machines or training them to be people aggressive this law is all we have to protect us. i love mastiffs and rotties and have met many who are gentle and obedient but if one is aggressive it could do much more damage than a small dog, or collie or spaniel types so it is very important that we have some sort of controls in place and the current law is a starting point but not as good as it could be.
 
I know a Dogo, has been through the courts and is now owned legally in the UK with BSL restrictions. She's a great big softy, lives with other dogs just fine. Nothing but a big couch potato.

BSL is so very flawed.
