I’m trying really hard to limit the use of needless plastic and have switched to bar shampoo myself. As I’m coming to the end of the bottle of horse shampoo I have, I’d like to replace it with a bar if possible.

As Dove has a pH of around 7, I’m wondering if this would be an option. Does anyone use this? If not, are there any bar shampoos specifically for horses’ skin?

Is there not a company that makes horse shampoo bars? I’m sure I’ve seen it advertised but can’t for the life of me think where or when.

The Alchemists Garden use bottles made of sugar cane and are completely recyclable. I’ve got visions of shampoo bars getting covered in dust and dirt.

Baby shampoo bars? Anything I’d be prepared to put on a baby, I’d put on my horse. Not necessarily the other way round though!

I definitely wouldn't use dove, when I used it on myself I found it left my skin feeling oily, I think it has moisturiser in it. I would think it couldakes the coat slippery.

There are a few bar soaps for horses. Steed and soul is the only brand I can think of right now. I wouldn’t use dove , however maybe a human shampoo bar could work!

Thanks, everyone. I’ll have a bit of a Google of all those tonight.

I must admit, I am a bit concerned about the possIbility of it ending up covered in dust and hay. It’s not like I bath my horses particularly often so I imagine it might fester in the tack room! ? I’ll look at those sugar cane bottles too. They sound interesting!
