I'm looking to buy a new winter coat. I've seen a Barbour one I like but somebody said they have gone the way of Hunters and the quality is rubbish these days. I had one a long time ago which seemed to live forever. I don't mind spending the money but only if it's going to last! Any experiences?

Or suggestions for nice waxed coats that are really good quality? Saw a cheaper Joules one which I like but thought Barbour would last longer.

I have just stopped buying Barbours as they don't last any longer than cheaper jackets. They are still well made and designed, but the wax doesn't seem to last as long and I never redo it in time, resulting in cracks/holes in the arms from riding (we are talking 3 months after being bought..). I seem to buy a new one nearly every year, and this year decided to just buy a £50 wax so I wouldn't care if it didn't last the winter out, rather than £200+ for a barbour..
