Someone's going to mention it - gotta ask, why Barbury though?

it looks like most of the shortlisted Americans are there, doesn't it? maybe it's their final trial or something.
i am still in mourning for Teddy O'Connor, Karen's riding her other listed horse at Barbury i think, she was probably going to bring Teddy. :*( :*( :*(
it'll be a fascinating competition.

OO didn't notice K o'C - you're probs right then Kerelli.

Plus timing wise, Barbury's first weekend of July, then however long quarantine time is brings us right up to the Olympics

Apparently the German team are sending their horses over as late as possible, not giving them weeks beforehand to acclimatise. Does anyone know when the Brit team is being sent over? I was told (by someone familiar with the German team etc) that the current thinking is that the horses cope fine with the change for about a week or so, and then it really hits them... so if you send them just before, they can compete in the "golden period", and then you get them out again, whereas if you take them earlier, their systems start suffering with the change, and then you ask them to compete.
will be very interesting to see which teams get sent out when, and how the horses cope.
personally, i think in those conditions every horse should be wearing a heart monitor, with a pre-determined overload point for every horse (based on resting heartbeat, normal post-gallops heartbeat etc), so that a halt can be called if necessary before anything keels over.

I think this event is going from strength to strength, the setting etc is so good and it's accessible too.
I just checked the other entries and there is the forum's Spotted Cat, T has obviously bitten the bullet, so good luck, I bet the course rides superbly on a horse like Boysie!
Interesting to see if AT gets any hostility, probably the Brits are all too reserved to do more than ignore her I reckon. (plus all the riders will be too busy competing to care)
I think ignoring her is all anyone should do, she's now probably the most careful person competing regarding over riding a lame horse, and from reading the reports must now regret what she did.

I belive all the Germans have been asked to do the CIC*** (not the CCI*** thankfully) at Luhmulen as a final selection trial.

The Aussie team selectors wanted all the horses to do the 4* at Luhmuhlen but there was outrage about this and all the potential team members refused to do it.

Barbury is one of the best events in the calendar.

Whos going to watch this year??

T will do fabulously, a real good course for Boysie.

I noticed miss tyron riding too.... I think ignoring her is the best option.

I'm SOOOOOO jealous now. I bought tickets for my parents to go for the weekend, so I have to stay home and look after the horses

It's going to be a fab comp, as long as they as they actually run their horses, not like in the past, just go and do the dressage and then pull out!!

Loads have question marks over them so can see them running especially as Barbury is the last chance regarding time.

Just a few I think have question marks over them:
Tamarillo
Imperial Cavalier
Both Andrew Hoys
Headley Britannia (been told she has to prove herself as not had a good season)
Gandalf (can he been competitive against this quality field)
Miners Frolic
Inonothing
Two Thyme

It is such a wonderful event went to watch last year and it was so fantastic! My horse ran at the P2P there and that was brilliant too!

all the horses will have to be in hong kong first week in august for all disciplines except teh para's. they have to do a weeks quarantine in their home country beefore that. no exceptions it is a stipulation of the hong kong jockey club. barbury is the final trial for the irish. proably for teh aussies and kiwis also, only the shortlist has to be declared by end june, fian descision not until couple weeks later.

GGGGRRRRRRRRR

I think all the competitors will be too focused on themselves to bother about Amy.

Word is that Flint Curtis, who had been unofficial first reserve, has now been dropped following an under par Bramham were his dressage once again wasnt world class. So will be interesting to see how Two Thyme runs - a horse preferred by several of the selectors (and of course Minors Frolic.)

German final trial is a special CIC*** at Luhmullen (sp!) this weekend, after which the team will be announced, hence why they arent running here.

Gandalf would be pretty much guarrented an Olympic place? Cant imagine the selectors would ignore Toddy's experience. Imperial Cavalier will be a deffo direct reserve to Cavvy - Mary's first choice, and Tam is Williams second string - should cope with the heat well.

I imagine that Brit has surely done more than enough? She was on form at Powderham earlier this year too? I would love to see Tapner on the squad, but doubt we will. The selectors seem to ignore UK results half the time... they seem to think that being in top 15 at Badminton in the same as top 5 at Sydney CCI***!

yer would love to see Paul on the team he deserves it! and of course Toddy so hope he makes the team!
Interesting about Flint Curtis am I right in thinking one of the 1st reserves will travel out as well with the team? and is WFP's 1st choice PE?

I would have thought Brit would have done enough she had good placings at chatswoth and Powderham?
