I took a friends horse to the Ridgeway Barbury Castle Endurance Ride yesterday.
Only my 2nd time on the horse and first time endurance. Have to say I absolutley loved it. Horse can be a bit of a madam but was foot perfect.
For the more interested people I did the 32km CR, average speed 10.9km/hr, hr 42 when we set off, 45 at final vetting, completed the course in 2hrs 55mins, came out with a Grade 2.
Unfortunately the horse is lame today (vetting was touch & go) but the ground was quite stoney and the farrier is due so we think she just bruised her feet as no heat or swelling, so keeping fingers crossed there I didn't break some-one elses horse :o

Ohhh I loved that ride when Lucy and I used to do it. Looks like you had a fab ride. Well done on the grade 2 :D
and i hope the horse is feeling better soon. :)

Well done you. Glad you enjoyed it - and hopefully you'll get the Endurance bug. Are you aching at all today after all that trotting?

I was at a different Endurance Ride this weekend (Ashdown Forest) and did 32km also on my novice horse, who was a superstar. I did exactly the same speed as you!

Anyway, I hope the horse is okay and that it turns out to be something really minor.

I can't wait to go again and would love to do more (if you know of anyone looking for a novice but keen rider just shout, lol)
I'm hoping I might be able to go to Firle or Phoenix, it depends on the logistics of it.
The lady I went with had a friend over at Ashdown on the Saturday, the weather wasn't so nice that day from what I gather!
Not aching today either, which is shocking as I'm not ride fit at the moment- but I'm expecting I might feel it tomorrow. So far so good tho, ready for the next one :D And fingers crossed for the mare.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the amount of cobby and non-Arab types there too.

Looks like you had a great time, i was crewing for one of the inter-regional teams so probably saw you! was a great day, and such an amazing venue! well done on your grade 2 as well!
