Had one of those really frustrating eventing days today.
Moon did a sweet test with just a little bit of gobbiness in her first canter and scored 37.6

Our 3rd test in a row in the 30s!!!
Then she jumped a really lovely clear in the sj, our Mark Phillips lesson really had us much more flowing and it felt very straightforward even though it was a decent sized novice track.

The xc was going really, really well and she felt mega up to fence 16. She jumped the combinations really well and was bang on through the quarry which had 2 nice steep hills to land on/take off from which made it quite a test. She was great through the water which caught quite a few out. Then no. 16 was The trakehner. Our nemesis! She jumped the open ditch/hedge before it really well and we held that positivity all the way in but 3 strides out she spooked at the ditch and veered left. Came round, re-presented and she just didnt want to know- she felt genuinely worried about it

I didnt re-present in a positive frame of mind as I was worried she'd fall if she jumped it off a bad stride so here ended our Barbury 09

We only had 3 fences left to jump and I think she was on track to be in the time.

Oh well- 2 weeks of ditch schooling for us then!!!

Did get this sweet pic

you were too quick for me I just got to the sj when I heard 'next to start on the xc Blue Moon....'
smile.gif
Glad you got a good pics as there way no way I was gonna make it to snap you in time! I saw her all the way to the dolphin and she was flying, such a shame about the trakhena, but I'm sure you can school her out of her issues. You must be
smile.gif
with the d and sj too, and I think the rain probubly didn't help with her confidence into the trakhena as you seemed to go just as it was getting slippy peeps later on had much better going as it had pretty much dried up although I was still v soggy!
smile.gif

We sjed 20 mins late so not sure how you missed us

She was super xc and she really had no excuses as it had only just started raining, she just really did gape down at the ditch. Silly Moon. It rattled her quite a lot and she was a bit out of sorts until we got home- she looks normal now luckily.

oh nooo
frown.gif
are you now thinking about it when coming into a trakhener though? Sorry to hear this but in my mind that was nearly another double clear and nearly another point
wink.gif

x sorry
frown.gif
give her a pat and a polo from me and that pic is so cool!

I made a huge determined effort just to look up and ride it like a log, I really did. After the stop I didnt ride it, I'll admit to that.
Eventing is an irritating game. Why wont it just all come together on the same day

[/ QUOTE ] I have no idea!

that trakhena is pretty spooky with the light coloured paneling in the ditch, and maybe she was also rattled by all the people on the bank next to it watching the water?... she looked fab round the rest I'm sure it's just a blip
smile.gif

Moon loves a crowd, strange horse!
It was a fairly spooky one, yes. But she's jumped far bigger and far wider in the past, plus she jumped that exact same one last year at Barbury. Illogical creature!!

Oh no
frown.gif
What a BUMMER!! Silly Moon!! Would you have been placed otherwise do you think?
The photo is smashing

We might have picked up a low placing if I'd been in the time- Barbury's always very competitive though and I didnt see the scores.
Lots of 'names' had issues- Cinda fell off in the water whilst on a 23 dressage, clear sj
tongue.gif

Disappointing but there were lots of positives (especially the SJ
smile.gif
). As you say, loads of ditch schooling for you and Moon.

owhh no
frown.gif

could it be that she pulled something if it was a up and down course and just felt it then
confused.gif
? hopefully you've both come home safe and sound though

just had a look at results think its funny that even if cinda f didnt fall xc and got inside the time she still wouldn't have won
shocked.gif

She looked great up to that point. Horses are frustrating creatures. Nutwell next?

frown.gif
lots and lots of trakehner practiceby the sounds of it .

Just a thought- I know its a million miles from you but Aston le Walls has loads of trakehners and ditches and things like that, if you ever were competing this way then do drop in there Nigel would find you a stable for sure; She's such a fab mare she has to be worth persevering with- as you said she is genuinely worried.

Yep had thought about Aston- esp as Nigel is supposed to be fab with horses with ditch probs.
She's so genuine, she has never refused before- run out and suffered from failed steering, yes, but never just said no
frown.gif

I'm sure we'll get over it, she only has two more runs planned this season anyway (due to holidays and work commitments) and then we'll do a winter of BSJA and hunting to get her loving it again

What a shame - especially being so near to the end of the course and after answering all of the more 'difficult' questions. Hope she's back on top form soon
smile.gif

Hmmm shame about the ditches, so close to home aswell
frown.gif
Are you close enough to lot sof different schooling places (doesn't have to be big) where you ca just jump ditch after ditch after ditch?

Complete tangent but who was teh photographer?!

Lovely photo
smile.gif
Sorry to hear you had problems at the trakehner after a good dressage and SJ. I hope she's back on form after some ditch schooling.

Lovely pic!!
Sorry i couldn't chat for longer but needed to get back and get ready?
Were you at the start for the CIC***?

Such a shame about the ditch thing, although i'm sure you'll get her over it (excuse the pun).
