bareback riding!

Assuming of course I have the day off... should I go to the show on Sat?

Well, I decided to bite the bullet and ride both of my horses bareback today for the first time

Colorado is pretty bombproof ridden, and he did not care one bit, he was normal to ride, and I was so proud! Tbh that's what I expected though, I normally mess around lying on his bum or doing around the world while he's walking along and he doesn't care. Sapo did try a few bucks at first, but he settled down after a while.

I didn't fall off

So, how many of you have done it?

Yes I always ride pickle up to the field bareback, in a headcollar and leadrope. We usually have a liitle trot/canter. Have also jumped bareback a fair bit, and ridden bareback schooling.

Couldn't answer your poll - don't do it 'all the time', yet have done it a lot more than 'once or twice'.
It's no big deal

Don't blame me for your poor poll designing skills! I just hope someone showsheens your horses' backs....

We used to ride bareback to and from the field all the time......we used to have a sly canter and jump in the field as well

What a kind person you are. I'd never suspected you of it

Certainly...send them to me. Will you be riding them home bareback? Somewhere with hard ground? Hatless is good in the warm weather....

I feel like I should give you a warning..I have this amazing skill which makes me stay on when I shouldn't technically be able to on a road or something, and fall off at a halt or some such situation in a lovely soft area. So maybe you should be pointing me in the direction of a nice quiet meadow?

Hatless? My mother would certainly not allow that

Anywho, there's not much between the ears to damage.

I answered Yeah - All the time. Not technically correct but not one that says Have you ridden bareback much in your riding career.

When I was alot younger before you had to wear a hat yes quite a lot especially winter so you could warm your hands (one at a time) up when it was really cold to to take rides out.

I wouldn't ride B bareback - I sit on the pony bareback and have a wander every so often. I used to do it all the time when I was younger. I have a very boney bum though and feel it must be uncomfortable for the horses

i love going bareback its great fun and really good for your balance. we have a beach 5mins ride so we take the horses swimming all the time and so we dont wreck out saddles we go bareback now thats a challenge hanging on with the water forcing your legs back but soft landing if you fall lol.

When i was younger used to ride bareback down to the lagoon and take them swimming great fun, apart from when they poo in the water and it floats on the top and separates . one kid who was swimming had a lovely chunk in his ear LOL

Btw, when I said 'all the time' I really didn't mean it as literally as some people may take it
smile.gif
I meant it in an offhand way.

I was taught to ride bareback so it was a natural thing for me to do when i was a lot younger.A fantastic way of teaching you to balance , i used to compete in best bareback rider classes as a kid and through my teenage years at horse shows and win all the time ,you had to jump several fences too but as this was the way i started off i feel more comfy riding this way! My dad swears i should have been an indian Chief.Think il wait a few years before i attempt it with my youngster not so brave now specially as he has only just been broken!

I finally figured out how to vault on bareback the other day so have currently been sneaking out to the fields after work and 'practicing' on all the riding school horses

Oooh, you've got me thinking!! (and that's a novelty in itself

)

Have ridden the oldie and the mare loads bareback but never the cob.

Must give it a go.

I will, of course, blame you if I hit the deck!

I used to do it all the time on a 14.2 sec D, my sec A and did it a few times on a 17hh hunter x.

I used to love it and gallop everywhere, but now I'll ride buddie (sec A) round the field bare back and thats it, Im not brave enough anymore!

I'm a big fan of bareback riding - can tell exactly what Brandy's going to do next and almost what she's thinking, and I just have a better position on her since her saddle is pants and throws me all out of shape. Not quite sure I'd dare if I wasn't in a confined space, though!

I take everything you say in an offhand way, as opposed to thinking you actually mean to offend everyone.

Btw, I jumped Colorado bareback today, and didn't fall off, which is a new one for me
wink.gif
So from no bareback to jumping bareback in two days..that's the summer spirit
