Heya,
I absolutely love riding bareback as it feels like I'm so much more connected to my pony, does anyone else feel like this and how often do you ride bareback?

Not as often as i use to as im now in my 50s, but i still do every few months, i love the feel of being carefree.

I'd like to, but my horse is not a fan. I've tried twice, and each time, he's dumped me without taking more than one step forward!

As a teen I wrecked a saddle and my parents refused to replace it, so I was bareback for months as punishment. In the end I got so used to it I did everything bareback and a saddle felt awful when I finally got a new one and I hated using it.

Nowadays I'm a wuss. I putter about bareback on my mare, who finds me horribly wobbly, and I feel like managing a turn around the nearby fields in a slow walk is a major accomplishment. On the other hand, it's nice knowing that she doesn't seem to want to fling me off in the dirt though she knows how easy that would be :D we have a ladies' agreement that bareback means nice, undemanding trips to the raspberry bushes at the bottom of the acreage.

I do in lovely summer and deepest winter but not inbetween.. The washing machine does not take kindly to that much hair being shed!! I seem to come off with more Bailey hair on my backside and inner thigh than I have on my head!!

Every so often when I'm in the mood, off I go, sometimes for miles and miles. In addition, there's the odd time that one of the children forgets a girth, so I end up donating mine :/

It must be good for me, because even though I ride regularly, I always ache in new places after a good spell without a saddle.

in days of old I taught all my pupils to ride bareback before giving them a saddle. Now i still let them have a go but have to finish the lesson and get parental permission first. It is a farce really probably just as well I retired a few years ago

Now and again. My highland is the equine equivalent of a comfy sofa ... awesome bareback but moulting like crazy at the moment so will stick to the saddle for the time being.

Aha my Highland I'm loaning is exactly the same, so comfortable but not when I get hair coating my jodhpurs!

I ride my horse quite a lot bareback - he's wide and very comfy. He's very easy to jump on and go for a quick trot to the village and back again!!

What a lovely turn of phrase!
I did most of my horse's slow rehab work bareback, because he understands that means gentle strolling not high excitement :)

I am not riding these days for various reasons.
I used to ride a lot bareback. It is how I was taught. I had to earn the right to a saddle.
More connected. Better feel for the horses movement. It reduces the weight the horse was carrying by about 10Kg. It is amazing how much a saddle and stirrups weighs. The longest I have ridden in a day was around 9 hours hacking including jumping. We covered around 25 to 30 miles.
The horse had a sore preventing a girth being used so I was asked to ride him. We ended the day swimming in the sea.
I feel very safe on bareback and touch wood have never been shot off.
Summer riding in shorts and a t shirt with just trainers and a hat.
When I was teaching in the winter I would ride a great pony bareback under my big coat. Much warmer. He liked the chance to get out of his box.
