Barefoot advice for ex-racer with weak feet

In my horses case I think his upbringing played a big part. He was in training at 22 months afaik so would have been shod at that age. His feet would not have had a chance to develop. He would also have been on a high grain diet which wouldn't have helped.
The fact his feet changed so radically once the shoes came off suggests this is not purely a conformation issue. His hooves are a much better shape now however the back of his foot iand digital cushion ars still underdeveloped and the jury's out on how much this will develop now at 8.

Not all TBs have weak feet. Have seen some stonkingly good ones with superb concavity. These ones seem to have had a more 'robust' youth ie no molly coddling, no shoes and lots of running about. with their mates.

Agree management is a big factor and it starts the day they are born. Unfortunately 'TB foot' is spreading as horses live more and more unnatural lifestyles from younger and younger ages.
