I would like to get my barefoot horse some boots, he is working well without shoes on level tarmac, but struggles on some stoney ground.

I have no idea what to go for really..

his feet are slightly odd sizes 140mm w by 160mm L
and 135mm w by 158mm L the other pair!

I liked the look of the easy glove one, but dont do his size.

Thankyou!

I'm not sure if they do his size but I love the Old Mac G2's, and I got a good deal on them from preequestrian on ebay.

My older mare has a full set of old macs G2, she has been fine with them and they helped her a lot on the stones, she is fine on grass and flat surfaces but the stones were causing her problems and we couldnt hack out without going on them. They arent too bad to put on but she doesnt have much feather. My trimmer recommends the easyboots and they do look much easier to put on. The glove does feel much lighter than the other ones. If the hooves are all different sizes maybe you could buy individual ones to make up the set, I havent done this myself but it might be possible.
I hope I have been a little helpful!!

Hi, my mare has Boa boots. They have lasted over 2 years being used approx 3 times a week. She has lost a boot about 5 times in all but each time I've doubled back and found it. The boots are great on tarmac and stones but can be slippery in mud or wet grass. At a show she jumps barefoot. Good luck.

Hi there

I use the Old MAc G2s on my TB, I think they are great, just make sure you get the right size, maybe get a Barefoot specialist to help you, that's what I did. Plus the hooves need to be properly trimmed first.
I don't suppose anyone has a second hand pair of Size 4 Old Mac G2's for sale?

Size may be a problem, but try: -
http://www.renegadehoofboots.com

We have been on these and Old Macs since last September, and for us they have several advantages over Old Macs. (More flexible to accomodate pastern/hoof rotation - see the easycare intro video in slow motion to observe this rotation. Not susceptible to being continually wet. Easier to clean. Quicker to put on. Bright orange, so easier to find when they come off - boots DO come off.)

We have found Old Macs do not last long, because the straps chaff and break, and the rear fabrication disintegrates, so that although Renegades are more expensive initially, they are much cheaper over time.

The company owner is very approachable, answers questions, and sorts out problems, unlike some we could mention.

I love the Renegades; but they wont come big enough for the OP; ( they are twice the price of Old Mac's)
I have the G2's and have had no problems with them at all; Ben wears them about 4 times a week for up to 3 hours over all sorts of terrain and at fast paces too.

I've never lost one; I don't see how you could lose one tbh! they are buckled on? Mine still look like new after 4 months, only the breakover is worn.

My boy has Old Mac mark1's - his feet are wider than long too - and these were the only ones to fit him. They've been in occasional use for several years and are lasting fine. I got them from the Saddleryshop - very helpful.

Are you sure you're measuring the legth correctly? It's a difficult measurement to get right as you don't measure to the back of the foot but to the back of the heel. I often have to measure the length a few times to make sure I have it right.

The Gloves are a great boot, I use them a lot for competing but if they don't come in a big enough size then the Easyboot Epics come in bigger sizes. They are slightly more difficult to put on than the Gloves but if you get a rubber mallet and tap them on it's much easier.

The Saddlery Shop does a boot hire service - so you can try a few different types to see which suits your horse best.

I would definitely recommend the easyboot epics. I also liked the look of the gloves, but they just wouldn't fit my mare. Although the saddlery shop did tell me that the Easycare company were supposed to be making the gloves in a wider range of sizes before too long.

You will probably find that whatever boots you have, you will struggle to put them on to start with - a combination of the boots newness and unfamiliarity with putting them on. When I first had my boots it took me forever to put them on - but once I got practiced at it, it took me no time at all :)

A friend had some Boas but they split at the back after about 6 weeks. And the disc at the front kept popping off.

I have been also looking at hoof boots for my mare and have narrowed it down to old macs G2 as she has a narrow hoof, and these will fit the best.
