Barefoot concerns

Check the hoof very carefully. Has any sole been removed?
Has the frog been heavily trimmed or sliced off?
Is the hoof wall level with the sole all the way round?
Has the hoof wall been left long beyond the white line, particularly at the toe?
Any of these bullet points are common when setting up for shoes, but are not done when barefoot. Maybe ask around your area and find a barefoot trimmer who could give an opinion. Otherwise, I think you may be looking at x-rays and a good vet to see what is going on inside the hoof.

No trimmer recommendations, as I don’t know of any good ones, but I’ll pm you the name of a fully qualified and still registered EPA trimmer who covers parts of NW England to avoid.

Unless you want feet like this. To which the trimmer asserted after both myself and the vet expressed concerns about the long toe/low heel foot balance that ‘No matter what any x rays showed, I wouldn’t trim this horse’s feet any differently’ 😳.
