Looking to change Rosie's diet and was wondering (as just gone back to being barefoot) whats the best diet for a barefoot pony?

Forgot to add that she is a very good doer. Fast fibre puts weight on her so cant use that. I have used lo cal in the past and just finished top spec all in one powder.

yeah just been reading back to these my bad i should of looked before posting!

But just wanted someone to say feed this this and this.

So what i can gather is:
Micronised linseed
Magox
Speedibeet
pro balance

How much linseed do you feed?

Is it worth using seperate herbs etc or will that just cost more?

One more thing pro hoof or pro balance?

Linseed is good for the quality of foot/ skin/ coat but is very calorific so likely to put weight on, I would feed a minimal amount of fast fibre or speedibeet just as a means of getting any supplements down her a handful should be ok and not make her gain weight.
I think someone found the pro hoof/ balance is cheaper than buying all the required minerals and mixing your own but I may be wrong.

Thanks be positive.
Yeah I understand that Linseed would put weight on. Is there an alternative or how little is enough to feed? Would you add chaff or leave it without. She has top spec top chop lite.

Pro-balance is cheaper so if you can get away with that then go for it. Pro-hoof contains extra ingredients, specifically digestive aids I think.

Linseed, keep the quantity down if she is a good doer, something like 100g total per day.

I wouldn't bother with a chaff if you don't need to it will only add calories. Then just as much speedibeet as you need to get her to eat the suppliments!

Thank you! *toudles off to find these thing*

Yes! In a word ;) Pro Balance has all the good stuff in without paying for extra 'fillers' to try to make it look better value!

Is this EQUUS HEALTH STRAIGHT COOKED LINSEED the same as micronised linseed.

This is what is sold at my local tack shop and the owner says it is. She also suggested i try biotin instead of linseed what would you guys do?

Speedibeet is more fattening than fast fibre so of the two I would use fast fibre. You only want to feed just enough to carry her supplements

However if she will eat her supplements in it you could go for a straight unmolassed straw chaff instead of either (Honeychop do one and I think Halleys) which is as low calorie as you can get.

As far as I understand it, you shouldn't need any biotin if you are using either the pro hoof or pro balance as it contains biotin etc. And it isn't just biotin that's needed, but methionine etc too.

Some people seem to be suggesting feeding magox with pro balance - I thought that magnesium was included in the pro balance?

My cob has just had his backs taken off on the way towards barefoot and I feed (split into 2 feeds):
1 stubbs scoop soaked speedibeet
1 mug micronised linseed
2 handfuls Safe&Sound (till finished, then Halleys Timothy chop)
1 scoop Pro Hoof

Farrier says that horn quality is 100% better than 3 months ago - when his diet changed :)

yeah the tack shop owner really just wants you to buy other stuff and don't listen.

Until I get to order some pro balance and linseed (I have just ordered some magox) she is on top spec top chop light until it has gone and just started on the speedibeet. Will take some photos of her feet on the weekend then can see if her feet look any different.

How much linseed would you feed a roughly 450kg good doer cob?

Can I recommend honeychops plain chopped straw for a fatties it really helped me with mine I mix with a little speedibeet add the supps to that.
I also use it as a partial hay replacement during summer .
When fatty was fat. I gave him 50 grammes linseed daily.
It depends how much of a wieght issue you are grappling with.
