I've recently changed diet to Top Spec top chop grass unmollassed speedibeet and Pro Earth platinum balancer. He really isn't happy with it and I am fed up of wasting his supplements. Should I continue or cut my loses and try something else. Thanks.

Mine won't eat dried grass. Have you tried another chop? I get on well with Top Chop light, which is straw and alfalfa.

I also have to add fenugreek to an already minted chop to get them to eat it in summer.

We use this, plus Fast Fibre.
 
I took my mare off top spec lite chaff due to the alfalfa as think makes her slightly footy. I saw that top spec now do zero chaff which is just the chopped straw with mint. Have bought some to try with her balancer.
 
Try Agrobs atuff. Mine has platinum plus and it clearly tastes vile! But he gets it in some agrobs grass nuts with a tiny sprinkle of museli and he eats it and licks the bowl clean. They will send you a sample if you ask
 
Thanks FC I contacted them this morning and they are sending a selection of samples, lets hope one suits him !!
 
I use a handful of Thunderbrooks herbal chaff with Progressive Earth Pro Balance, linseed, salt and apple cider vinegar on my barefoot horse. But he's a stupidly good doer & needs as little calories as well as sugar as possible.

I did try various Simple Systems feeds, but he was super fussy about eating it and he wasn't then eating his balancer. He loves the Thunderbrooks chaff though!
 
I've just bought a rising 3 year old who had been kept in a herd all of his life and had had no handling, farrier, dentist or hard feed etc and after putting him on ForagePlus Hoof & Skin Health Winter with a mug of linseed and SpeediBeet I can honestly say his hooves are transforming. The growth that's coming through is spot on and whilst they are not perfect yet and there is a lot of growing out to do, the results that I am seeing are very promising indeed! Not only that but he is far less itchy, he hasn't ballooned in weight, and his coat colour has intensified to a jet black despite living out 24/7. Highly, highly recommend!
 
To throw something into the mix... that Pro Earth Platinum seems to be a problem with mine. She's a good doer on 1.5 scoops wet speedi-beet and 200gms micronised linseed. Wonderfully cheap horse to feed. However, I feed soaked haylage (hay v difficult to find around our way, but haylage has less sugar anyway), so replace lost minerals/salts/vitamins.

She was on Pro Earth Pro Hoof but the Platinum was cheaper when it came to renew. I carefully measured out the dose and she flat refused to eat it, snorting and pawing at it, instead. Full feed bowl the following morning. This went on for a few days. It stinks of fish.

However, as it is blooming expensive I wasn't going to let it go to waste. I had some Mole Valley Farmers Vits and minerals left over (and, according to the label, the ratios are comparable for a fair few of the minerals) so I mixed it in. I then fed the required dose and gave her half a scoop extra of the wet beat. This still produces snorts but she is eating it now.
 
Topaz was reluctant to eat the Pro Platinum too, but we added some mint to her feeds (she's such a good do'er shes not getting any more of anything else :o), and it works a treat. She's quite fussy for such a fatty, but thankfully loves mint!
 
I would try some agrobs if you can, doesn't work for all but a revelation down here compared to other chopped grass chaffs
 
Not sure whats in the platinum but I use pro balance supplement and mix it with micronized linseed and unmollased beats don't think there's any benefit from chaff. In the winter when the grass isn't so good I add in soaked pure grass nuts and he wolfs this down though be warned the green soup goes everywhere as my horse loves to share his food with my hair! If weight isn't an issue the grass nuts ill hide the taste of most things as quite potent

Mine is a very greedy fat cob and he doesnt like it either. It stinks so it cant taste nice. He does happily eat it in the agrobs though and did eat it with a handful of speedi beet but it just took him all night and involved lots of cross faces and stomping :lol:
